New Song: Usher & H.E.R. – ‘Risk It All’ [‘The Color Purple’ Soundtrack]

Published: Thursday 7th Dec 2023 by Sam

With ‘The Color Purple’ drawing nearer its release on Christmas Day (December 25), more material from the film’s star-studded soundtrack has been unlocked.

The latest is the Usher and H.E.R.-led anthem ‘Risk It All.’

A stirring piano-driven hymn, the soulful track sees the potent pair trade verses about risking it all for love, which, by design, mirrors the themes explored in the Blitz Bazawule-directed movie: risk, love, and liberation.

As reported, ‘The Color Purple’ soundtrack (due December 15) will feature the film’s stars Fantasia Barrino, Taraji P. Henson, Halle Bailey, and Ciara. Additional names in the mix (beyond Usher and H.E.R.) also include Ciara, Megan Thee Stallion, Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Hudson, and more.

In the here and now, take a listen to Usher and H.E.R.’s ‘Risk It All’ below…

HER is cool but her voice is boring. Deep, monotone, not much versatility.

    Nice.

There’s only so much a good singer can do to bring something to a dull song. HER showed her potential on “The Journey” and still chooses to sing as though she has limited vocal ability. I’ll never understand it.

Nice duo. I went to one of her concerts and I was scared it would be boring because her studio vocals are very laid back.
Live it was totally different, she actually has a strong voice, she can hold notes, she has range. I don’t know why she never shows her chops like that on the record.
