Prince’s Classic ‘Purple Rain’ Film To Be Adapted into Broadway Musical

40 years after Prince rocked movie box offices with his semibiographical 1984 musical film ‘Purple Rain,’ Broadway box offices are hoping for a similar response via a newly announced stage adaptation of the classic flick.

Directed by the TONY-nominated Lileana Blain-Cruz, ‘Purple Rain’ the stageplay is based on a screenplay created by Albert Magnoli and William Blinn.

While additional details will be announced in the coming months, the show’s producers can confirm that excitement for the venture is brimming.

“We can’t think of a more fitting tribute than to honor Prince and the ‘Purple Rain’ legacy with this stage adaptation of the beloved story,” said Larry Mestel, founder and CEO of Primary Wave Music. “We are thrilled with our Broadway partners and creative team, who are bringing a theatricality to the film’s original fictional story. We can’t wait for a new generation to discover ‘Purple Rain’ and for lovers of the original film and album to experience its power once again, this time live.”

As of time of this report no tentative premiere date has been announced.
