Nelly: ‘My Era Was The Toughest In Hip-Hop Ever’

Published: Wednesday 6th Mar 2024 by Ryan

Nelly is standing his ground on his assertion that his era of hip-hop is the toughest out there.

More details below…

The rapper appeared on the season 7 premiere of ‘The Shop,’ where he discussed his career, the rivalry in hip-hop, and more. During his time on the show, he asserted that the competition during his era of music was unmatched with artists like Jay-Z, DMX, and 50 Cent all competing at the same time.

“You gotta understand my era of music was the toughest era in hip-hop ever! When I put out songs I had to go against DMX, Jay-Z, Eminem, Lil Wayne, 50 Cent, and Ludacris. All of us are fighting for one spot. So from 99’ to 2008..2010 it was the hardest era ever,” Nelly said.

Many people in the comments agreed with Nelly that this was a stacked time in the history of hip-hop and that there were even other names competing that he did not mention.

I don’t remember it that way. They weren’t all fighting for one spot. The names mentioned were part of a good variety of artists and they all had something a little different. Only competition or comparisons I remember in the media were between DMX/Ja Rule, and Nelly/Chingy, maybe Jay-Z and Nas. Today mainstream rap isn’t even worth fighting for a spot.

I agree there was more variety.

Every artist and especially RAP artist is always fighting for the number one spot, that’s why it’s always beef and diss tracks. When it comes to competition rap is the closest thing to sports.

No Nelly, it was just when YOU were lit. Hip Hop was toughest in the 90s and more like today, people actually died sis. The 00’s kept it cute, couldn’t even kill 50.

He’s referring to tough competition. And he’s right. The 00’s was a very competitive time in rap with a bunch of aggressive heavy weights dropping classics and making power moves. That era of hiphop separated the men from the boys.

Pleasee he’s just making relevancy to get a check for the baby expectancy. He slayed his moment but the 90s had more competition hence n***** died. Period. He slipped cuz Christina Aguilera and Him were supposed to be a thing and she went left for Moulin Rouge, paid him dust and ended his pop career on MTV. Love him forever tho. A WAYYYY better country artist than Beyonce!

I gotta agree. And none of them sounded the same either. They all had their own individual styles and sound.

Was also the best. Hip hop today is garbage.

  6. Queen Normani March 6, 2024

Flop. Him and Beyoncé are! Normani is coming to end their eras.
