For a brief moment, some corners of the online sphere attempted to ignite a beef between the two rappers and it all stemmed from a remark Cardi made to a fan challenging her heritage.
Unpacking her stance in a clapback to one user, the ‘Enough (Miami)’ hitmaker briefly mentioned Ice Spice saying:
“Same reason why you felt comfortable calling me a Mexican when I’m Dominican and I asked you why you feel comfortable calling me a Mexican when ice and jharell Jerome Zoe Saldana are Dominicans and you don’t do that to them.”
Catching wind of the comment (and fans fanning the imaginary flames), the ‘Munch’ rapper replied:
“no offense bardi its cus i have a dominican parent & a black one”
Keeping it light and loving, Cardi responded with:
“I think there might be some confusion on what was said, I asked why he feels so comfortable calling me Mexican? I have no Mexican parents. My mom is Trini.. she came out of a whole black woman. My father is Dominican…I’m Dominican just like you. I also used other Dominicans as an example because as you should know a lot of times we get clustered into one because of the language.”
Before adding:
“Also can you send me that pic you took of me wit ya camera from vanity fair? Thank youuu”
Obliging (and seemingly breaking the internet in the process), Ice commented:
“de lo mio”

She’s such a mean girl, probably why Taylor like her. It’s obvious what Cardi meant and I’m glad she didn’t take the bait.
