New Marvin Gaye Music Discovered Could Lead To Legal Battle

New Marvin Gaye music has been discovered, however, it could lead to some legal troubles.

More details below…

According to the BBC, new music from Gaye has been discovered in Ostend, Belgium. He lived there with musician Charles Dumolin around 1982 and Gaye left some unreleased music to him.

The new music consists of 30 tapes and 66 demo songs.

“A few of them are complete and a few of them are as good as ‘Sexual Healing,’ because it was made in the same time,” the tapes have been described.

The legal issue comes because Belgian property law states that if someone holds property, no matter how it’s acquired, it is theirs after 30 years, no matter if it is stolen or not. However, it does not apply to intellectual property.

This could mean that while the Dumolin family owns the tapes, they won’t be able to publish the songs themselves and they will likely require an agreement with the Gaye family.

No legal actions has been taken at this time.
