TLC’s T-Boz Reveals She’s Set to Retire: “I’m Not Going to Kill Myself Doing This”

Published: Thursday 29th Aug 2024 by Sam

TLC fans ought to catch the group live while they can because member T-Boz has announced that she is getting ready to retire.

Full story below…

The singer (born Tionne Watkins) made headlines recently when the legendary ensemble had to cancel shows after T-Boz was hospitalized with a severe intestinal blockage

As reported, the performer offered an update and clapped back at those who made fun of her condition. She clarified that it was not related to the Sickle Cell she has battled for most of her life.

With that saga in rearview, the star stopped by The Breakfast Club to dish on the ordeal and her future plans. Central to the latter are plans to retire from the touring circuit.

Speaking candidly, she told Charlamagne Tha God, DJ Envy, and guest host Loren LoRosa:

“Touring is hard! You ain’t have to have a disease to take a break or get an injury. It’s hard out here. my dancers be broke down at 20. Things are getting harder.

That’s why I’m gearing up to retire (from touring). Probab;y next year will be my last tour. So, if y’all wanna come and see TLC, I suggest you do it now because I’m not going to be doing this much longer. I am 54, but I’m blessed. I was told I wouldn’t live past 30. I’m 54 still on stage, selling out arenas and stadiums, traveling the world. This is like a dream and something that I prayed for and God gave it to me. So, when God and my body say it’s time to stop, then I will stop. I ain’t crazy I’m not going to kill myself doing this!”

It would appear the move could spell the end of TLC as an active group.

Following the death of member Lisa ‘Left Eye’ Lopes in 2002, T-Boz and Rozonda ‘Chilli’ Thomas released the album ‘3D’ and anchored themselves as staples on the worldwide touring scene. 2015 saw TLC crowdfund to create what they billed as the group’s final album. The self-titled set was released in 2017.

With new music and long-term touring seemingly off the table, could this be the final hurrah for TLC?

Finally – been saying they should retire for years. The spark was gone the moment Lefteye died.

I’ve seen TLC twice on tour and met Chilli and T-Boz who are both very friendly and funny. The only thing I don’t understand is T-Boz saying she doesn’t want a lot of attention or people in her business when she put out a whole book about her personal life. Her intention I’m sure was to set the record straight, but she has to know that people will always have something to say, right or wrong. Don’t let the ugly comments steal your joy.

I will always love TLC like always. I think she’s put in enough work to rest. I just want her to be OK like start a record label, write a TV series, get a reality show, start a new business, something because I know it’s hard to maintain that lifestyle without touring. Wishing her n Chilli the best.
