Tyrese is no stranger to saying how he feels.
As such, when the long-running debate about the “King of R&B” was broached during a recent interview, the star didn’t hold back in declaring that his pick is R. Kelly.
He also wasn’t quiet about his rejection of the title belonging to some of the other names often floated.
Full story below…
Speaking to The Shade Room, Tyrese said the following was asked who the King of R&B is:
“R. Kelly. Who else but him? We not talking about him being in jail or what he’s dealing with controversy-wise.”
Responding to the suggestion that Usher is the reigning King, the 45-year-old responded:
“Usher is not the King of R&B. He is not the King of R&B.
Until Usher writes every song he ever (releases) and produces every song he ever (releases) and hands out 60 to 300 R&B hit records to everybody else in the R&B game, he’s not the King.
I’m sorry.
Chris Brown is not the King of R&B to me (either).
They are KINGS. Chris Brown and Usher are 50x bigger than me. I’m not a King of no type of R&B. I’m a beast at what I do, but they have outsold me and have way more status, Grammys, arenas, and the level of arena shows they do is beyond the scope of anything I’ve ever done. And I, quite frnakly, don’t desire that level.”

Okay Roomies, đđŸđđŸ We know the âKing Of R&Bâ debate has had the internet in a chokehold for quite some time, but buckle up because #Tyrese has entered the chat. Kelly’s name had long been synonymous with the title. Yet, since his conviction and incarceration for a number of sexual crimes has largely seen his music “canceled” and thus his regal status called into continuous question.
With that, what are…
No lies were told.
King of R=a** & Beastiali+ty.
Tyrese has officially LOST IT.
NOPE. He knows music fatty. Take a seat (don’t break it tho, you know how YOU do lol)
B itch #DON’T. đ€Ź
Chris Brown 1 GRAMMY
R Kelly 3 GRAMMYS
Usher 8 GRAMMYS đ
That’s not saying anything. For example, Madonna is considered the queen of pop with 7 grammys while Beyonce has 32.
Madonna is the queen of pop…
Beyonce is the Queen of MUSIC
It’s quite ACCURATE.
It’s a WONDER how Madonna even got 7 grammys with such a WEAK catalog and ZERO TALENTS to speak of.
People say he forfeited the title because his music was used to maintain the status and power he wanted for trafficking girls. Taking away the title takes away the status.
You sound stupid lol. How can you take away the past without removing our memories? The hits happened. He happened. It’s all documented. Based on those FACTS, we declare R.Kelly (if ANYONE) the king of R&B. To date, no one has had the run or quality he did during his active years.
Usher has sold more albums and more digital songs. Usher has more Billboard hot 100 Number ones, more R&B chart Number ones and more R&B and hip-hop Number ones. Usher has more Billboard awards, American music awards and Grammys. Everyone has an opinion but Numbers doesn’t lie and based off sales and number one songs the people have enjoyed Usher Music more. Facts are FACTS.
No one is denying his accomplishments, but the title is gone, just like Cosby had great success in his career but he lost the title of “America’s Dad”. The reason we keep seeing conversation and debate about who is the king of r&b is because the title is up for grabs and Usher has loudly been declared the frontrunner.
Usher is bigger, more popular, more successful and more talented than usher and also an elite dancer & performer. Just because R Kelly is more of an ARTIST doesn’t make him King, that’s the ONLY thing he has over Usher… NOTHING else.
The question is stupid and sparks pointless debates. The interviewer is trash.
Truth. You couldnât go a day in the 90s and early 2000âs without hearing R. Kelly whether it was his solo work, or work he produced for other artists: R&B, pop, gospel, rap ⊠his work is LEGENDARY. I agree with Tyrese.
For me per The king of r&b is Chris brown the guy has the most digital records sold and single records sold for r&b the guy has the most hits for r&b the most charting consecutive weeks for r&b artists heâs has the longest streak of making hits in consecutive years modern 21st century and also has the second most platnium studio albums outta the big three for touring Chris has made nearly 300M for male R&B when his reports of his tour comes out all these facts im giving are not false by the way they are all researchable
His numbers are fake. How he sell 20k first week and get a platinum certification. Real kings have real numbers and thatâs R. Kelly. Then Usher behind him.
R Kelly didnât outsell Chris Brown. Maybe Usher by a little.
