Jon Batiste Says Beyonce’s ‘Cowboy Carter’ is GRAMMY “Album of the Year-Worthy”

Published: Sunday 6th Oct 2024 by Sam

With GRAMMY season rapidly drawing near, debate is heating up about who should take home which award.

Beyonce, the most awarded act in the history of the ceremony, naturally finds herself at the center of the discourse. Especially given that, despite her gargantuan sum of wins, the top honor – Album of the Year – has eluded her. And unfairly so, per the masses.

As voting commences to determine the 2025 nominees, Jon Batiste – a previous Album of the Year winner and ‘Cowboy Carter’ contributor – weighed in on the LP’s chances.

Full story below…

Batiste, who co-wrote ‘American Requiem’ on the Country-centric project, told Rolling Stone:

“It is Album of the Year-worthy. And I will say, being in on that process, there’s a lot of depth in that process and a lot of depth in that album that people aren’t even keying into just yet. So it’s definitely worthy of it.”

We agree. Do you?

Your thoughts?

No it’s not, stop worshipping her.

She doesn’t have artistic credibility, it’s not there, and it’s hard to listen to something that doesn’t give authentic.

It’s not even the country take it’s just doesn’t feel real, it’s not bad it’s just good production but without soul

Soul is subjective. The opening track American Requiem, 16 Carriages, Protector, Flamenco, Ya Ya and the closing track Amen whether through the vocal delivery, the subject matter or a combo of both are spine tingling, emotive and very touching. But that’s from my perspective.

That’s the thing with soul, it’s not measurable or quantifiable in a scientific way. What we feel is just down to individual feelings and exposures.

My opinion on the matter is aligned with the critics who can be summed up on metacritic. It’s a phenomenal album and one of the years best.

If you’ve missed the moment then that’s a damn shame. But each to their own.

      Stay blessed.

I appreciate your take, and I do find some songs in the album touching and well made but it’s just doesn’t stick, and with all the work and all the professional people that were involved in it and the position she’s in as the MJ of our generation, it doesn’t hold to what it should have been, same with most of her albums. She doesn’t make classics, her DC era was her prime artistically, she gave us authenticity, looks, originality, and hits that still holds up after more than 20 years. Instead of giving us MJ she’s giving Chris Brown.

      • LOL October 6, 2024

LOL girl stop with the damn essays, she’s not fkn Beethoven, she didn’t even write 90% of the album lmao 🤣.

    • Scoopz October 6, 2024

Again a lot of that is subjective and opinion as opposed to being fact. Neither of us are in a position at this point in time to determine what is and is a classic from an album released this same calendar year. The materials been well received critically and commercially so only time will tell if it achieves classic status in the public mindset.

Plus what is a classic? A critically acclaimed composition or a popular one? All subjective.

There were only two great Destiny’s Child albums and those were TWOTW and Destiny Fulfilled. Despite that, the less critically acclaimed pop sellout Survivor album has more classics on it than Destiny Fulfilled with Independent Woman, Survivor, Bootylicious and Emotions. All achieved great commercial success if not critical success and became regarded as classics on a popularity/throwback/nostalgia basis instead of on the basis being critical darlings. Which they’re not.

      See my point?

Cowboy Carter is very highly rated critically. In fact every Beyonce album from and including 4 onwards has seen greater critical acclaim than the rest of her career including Destiny’s Child.

What doesn’t vibe with you doesn’t equate to something not being classic. It’s all subjective and time will reveal all. But as it stands, from 4 she has prioritised artistic integrity over popularity and that shows from her critical reception. That’s entirely different to Chris Brown so that analogy isn’t fitting.

      • DaAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaa October 6, 2024

        Nahh it’s not subjective.
She doesn’t have classics anymore and she makes music for awards. On the other hand Solange makes real music with real artistic credibility , she should take lessons from her.

Beyonce now gives Chris Brown instead of MJ

I think my previous reply still stands. Your last message didnt contend with my points and instead is the equivalent of an “Nuh-uh!”

What constitutes a classic is subjective. It is not scientific. Some would say its popularity, some would say critical acclaim, some would say a measure of both.

What remains a fact is that from 4 onwards Beyonces work has received far greater critical reception that at any other part of her career.

What you personally deem a classic is not what equals a classic. Its just what you like.

      Its important you understand that.

Where is the live performances for Cowboy Carter? This is so weird for her to have put out an album that has no live performances. She could of did one performance on Jimmy Fallon or perform one time on Country Music Television network. Everyone is fighting for her to get country awards but it doesn’t seem that she’s fighting for herself. One live performance of her country song, especially on a country platform could help her. One exclusive interview with a prominent country magazine could help her. It seems like she is in a new era of “I’m gonna put out new material but don’t ask me for any live performances or videos. I’m done with that. I’m entitled to win. My past proves I can perform”. Or is she scared to perform on a country platform. Or is she mad at her record label so she is doing the bare minimum. I mean Micky Guyton is an active black country singer. Mickey said she has faced racism, however, she’s always performing on country awards shows, country Christmas shows and she has done interviews on CMT where she openly discusses racism in country with other country performers and country gatekeepers. Her openness has helped her have a thriving career in country. Beyonce needs to move like Mickey Guyton if she wants success in country. Her having no performances for Cowboy Carter, no country platform interviews and no country videos ain’t going to help her win album of the year.

THANK YOU FOR USING THIS PLATFORM TO SAY WHAT SO MANY HAVE FELT BUT DIDN’T HAVE THE WORDING TO CONVEY!
YOU’RE RIGHT ABOUT MICKEY GUYTON DOING WHAT NEEDS DOING & GETTING THAT EXPOSURE FOR THE GOOD OF HER TALENT & SALES!

    • TheClassAct October 7, 2024

Performing is either in-studio or live. Cowboy Carter contains STUDIO PERFORMANCES but no live performances.

  7. June’s Diary October 6, 2024

Is Beyonce a witch she has so many people under her spell where everyone has to kiss her ass. Truthfully speaking her music isn’t that great and it’s forgettable. On top of being forgettable she feels above promotion. No performances, no visuals, just hiding out in that $300 million dollar mansion wearing blood diamonds and acting “unbothered” and mysterious. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

  8. RBRT October 6, 2024

Renaissance > Cowboy Carter. With CC, she really met them get to her, and from that rejection she created this album. Be real, it’s not her best work. And it’s not the end of the world if she doesn’t get AOTY this time.

  9. NORMANI October 6, 2024

Flop! She’s not that great as Aretha or Reba.

    • Chlöe Bailey October 6, 2024

Normani embodies the word flop. Shes a walking failure. 😆

  10. Flopwood October 6, 2024

Since when did we start writing essays in the comments

  11. Karen October 6, 2024

    Flop!

  12. Simon October 6, 2024

I love Beyoncé but CC album was boring af.
Renaissance was much better and that even wasn’t her best work.

She’s very talented but the fact that she’s the artists with the most grammy wins ever is crazy 🤪

  13. Henrietta October 6, 2024

The world doesn’t revolve around Beyonce. She already has more Grammy awards than anybody else. She just drops music and disappears now which lessens its staying power. CC came and went. The Faghive tried to drag it out a little more but the gp move the f*** on and so should they lol

  14. True Tea October 7, 2024

YASSS! He want Cowboy Carter to ride him.

  15. Audiobully October 7, 2024

Yeah it is if you pay $$$$$$$ for the award. Other than that, it’s cow dung
