Jon Batiste Says Beyonce’s ‘Cowboy Carter’ is GRAMMY “Album of the Year-Worthy”

Published: Sunday 6th Oct 2024 by Sam

With GRAMMY season rapidly drawing near, debate is heating up about who should take home which award.

Beyonce, the most awarded act in the history of the ceremony, naturally finds herself at the center of the discourse. Especially given that, despite her gargantuan sum of wins, the top honor – Album of the Year – has eluded her. And unfairly so, per the masses.

As voting commences to determine the 2025 nominees, Jon Batiste – a previous Album of the Year winner and ‘Cowboy Carter’ contributor – weighed in on the LP’s chances.

Full story below…

Batiste, who co-wrote ‘American Requiem’ on the Country-centric project, told Rolling Stone:

“It is Album of the Year-worthy. And I will say, being in on that process, there’s a lot of depth in that process and a lot of depth in that album that people aren’t even keying into just yet. So it’s definitely worthy of it.”

We agree. Do you?

No it’s not, stop worshipping her.

She doesn’t have artistic credibility, it’s not there, and it’s hard to listen to something that doesn’t give authentic.

It’s not even the country take it’s just doesn’t feel real, it’s not bad it’s just good production but without soul

Soul is subjective. The opening track American Requiem, 16 Carriages, Protector, Flamenco, Ya Ya and the closing track Amen whether through the vocal delivery, the subject matter or a combo of both are spine tingling, emotive and very touching. But that’s from my perspective.

That’s the thing with soul, it’s not measurable or quantifiable in a scientific way. What we feel is just down to individual feelings and exposures.

My opinion on the matter is aligned with the critics who can be summed up on metacritic. It’s a phenomenal album and one of the years best.

If you’ve missed the moment then that’s a damn shame. But each to their own.

      Stay blessed.

I appreciate your take, and I do find some songs in the album touching and well made but it’s just doesn’t stick, and with all the work and all the professional people that were involved in it and the position she’s in as the MJ of our generation, it doesn’t hold to what it should have been, same with most of her albums. She doesn’t make classics, her DC era was her prime artistically, she gave us authenticity, looks, originality, and hits that still holds up after more than 20 years. Instead of giving us MJ she’s giving Chris Brown.

Where is the live performances for Cowboy Carter? This is so weird for her to have put out an album that has no live performances. She could of did one performance on Jimmy Fallon or perform one time on Country Music Television network. Everyone is fighting for her to get country awards but it doesn’t seem that she’s fighting for herself. One live performance of her country song, especially on a country platform could help her. One exclusive interview with a prominent country magazine could help her. It seems like she is in a new era of “I’m gonna put out new material but don’t ask me for any live performances or videos. I’m done with that. I’m entitled to win. My past proves I can perform”. Or is she scared to perform on a country platform. Or is she mad at her record label so she is doing the bare minimum. I mean Micky Guyton is an active black country singer. Mickey said she has faced racism, however, she’s always performing on country awards shows, country Christmas shows and she has done interviews on CMT where she openly discusses racism in country with other country performers and country gatekeepers. Her openness has helped her have a thriving career in country. Beyonce needs to move like Mickey Guyton if she wants success in country. Her having no performances for Cowboy Carter, no country platform interviews and no country videos ain’t going to help her win album of the year.
