Just six months after Nicki Minaj snatched the title for most Platinum-certified hits among female rappers in the 72-year history of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has she learned her ‘Say So‘ co-star Doja Cat has clawed her way back to the top beside her.
Taking to press earlier this month, the RIAA revealed Cat’s latest Hot 100 top 10 smashes – ‘Agora Hills‘ and the chart-topping ‘Paint the Town Red‘ – have received their first set of certifications.
While ‘Hills’ climbed to 2x Platinum status, ‘Red’ doubled that when it saw 4x Platinum colored beside its name. For context, “Platinum” denotes sales equivalence of 1 million units in the United States.
What’s more, the tunes’ parent album – ‘Scarlet‘ – has also been certified Platinum, making it her third consecutive studio effort to reach the sales threshold following 2019’s ‘Hot Pink‘ (2x Platinum) and 2021’s ‘Planet Her‘ (2x Platinum).
Thanks to the certification upgrades of ‘Hills’ and ‘Red,’ Doja now has 25 Gold single plaques to her credit – one more than Minaj (the previous all-time champ among female rappers).
Cat also now has 19 Platinum single records, a feat that ties her with Nicki’s all-time record (also the highest among female rappers).
Together, the certification upgrades of ‘Red’ and ‘Hills’ push Doja’s career single sales count to 51 million in the United States.
When considering singles only, she’s now surpassed Nicki to become the second best-selling female rapper behind Cardi B (58 million).

Seeing as Nicki was compared with lady Gaga in the beginning I’d say that puts Doja right on course 🤣to snatch her crown🤷🏽 let’s be real doja can make Nicki like music can imitate her flow and be her son basically but Nicki cannot do what Doja does because doja has better musicality and can sing better. She can also dance making her a whole lot more interesting to watch ! Nicki is Nicki you can’t take that but Nicki was the prototype doja were as similar is in general a better artist….Nicki does have better bars though🤷🏽 lastly the goal of any rapper is to be a pop star…. That’s where the money is the genre pop just means most popular music of all the subgenres meaning rap can be pop—— look no further then drake as a great example
