Netflix has officially scrapped its highly anticipated documentary on music icon and legend Prince.

The project was initially announced with high expectations and was set to explore the late musician’s life and artistry. However, it will not be going ahead after Netflix and Prince’s Estate came to an agreement.

A statement obtained by CNN reads:

“The Prince Estate and Netflix have come to a mutual agreement that will allow the estate to develop and produce a new documentary featuring exclusive content from Prince’s archive. As a result, the Netflix documentary will not be released.”

There were reports suggesting that creative differences and disagreements around capturing the global star’s life may have played a part in the decision to not release it.

The six-part documentary directed by Ezra Edelman was in production for four years but fans may have to wait indefinitely for its release.
