As host of the popular ‘R&B Money’ podcast, Tank is no stranger to igniting musical debates after quizzing guests on their “top 5 R&B artists.”
Putting himself in the hot seat for a change, the singer-songwriter took to Instagram on Tuesday (April 22) to unveil his updated list of favorites in the genre.
And while some names didn’t come as a surprise, Tank left a few jaws dropped when he stood on the side of superstar Usher when considering the greatest male voice of that generation.
Just months after sending Michael Jackson fans into a fury for saying Chris Brown is a better singer, dancer, and writer, Tank’s flown to the top of the sh-tlist of fans of ‘I Believe I Can Fly’ singer R. Kelly for saying Usher is a better vocalist.
“…stop saying R.Kelly is a better singer than Usher! He is not, and that’s a lot coming from me because [R. Kelly] is my favorite artist,” the 49-year-old told his 2.1 million followers on the platform. “But, this is not about favorites.”
Needless to say, Tank’s comments on the post were blown up with refutation. See highlights below.

Kelly Alllll day!! u kidding me??

Chris Brown is the king of R&B.
Usher has h***** and R Smelly is a goat sounding p********!

Tank is soooo fine. I had a customer in Chinatown before. He was just like him. Mm hmmm he left me a great tips and a tons of his awesome baby army
Like comparing apples to oranges
They on the exact same lvl vocally
No they aren’t. Usher has a smoother voice, cleaner runs and a beautiful falsetto. R Kelly has that freaky Baptist church deacon voice. Both great singers but different styles.
