“Pardon Tory Lanez” Petition Garners 84K Signatures In a Day As His Team Blames Kelsey Harris for Megan Thee Stallion Shooting

As Tory Lanez is on the mend after a brutal prison attack that saw him reportedly stabbed 14 times, the rapper’s team is hard-at-work to ensure his recovery is done from the comfort of his home.

On Wednesday (May 14), Unite The People – a team of social and legal justice activists – held a press conference in Los Angeles to share new evidence and witness testimony to exonerate Lanez (born Daystar Peterson).

Peterson is currently serving a 10-year sentence for assaulting rapper Megan Thee Stallion with a firearm.

Attorney Walter Roberts led the conference (as we reported), and shared the testimony of Kelsey Harris‘ driver and bodyguard Bradley James who claims he witnessed the shooting incident in July 2020.

Harris is Meg’s former best friend.

“[Harris] had the gun. [Harris] fired it [at Megan] three times. Mr. Peterson grabbed her arm and knocked it down, and the gun fired two more times. In essence, Mr. Peterson never shot anybody. Never even touched that gun. He never even fired the gun,” Roberts said. “This statement aligns with the statement of the only non-party witness to the case, Mr. Sean Kelly, who at trial testified he saw two women fighting, two men break up the fight, one man grab the other one’s arm, gunshots came from the passenger side.”

Later in the press conference, Roberts even questioned the validity of the DNA evidence used to convict Daystar.

“There were three potential suspects in the car that night,” he shared. “And yet the only DNA sample was taken of Mr. Peterson, even though unknown DNA was found on the gun.”

Noise around the press conference (alongside promotion from Lanez’s Instagram) catalyzed attention in a Change.org petition created by the Caldwell Institute for Public Safety in Florida on Monday (May 13).

“Tory Lanez is serving a 10-year sentence under deeply contested circumstances. Alarmingly, he also recently survived an alleged attempt on his life while in custody—raising urgent concerns about his safety and well-being. This is not what justice looks like,” the page reads.

Like the press conference, the petition is also urging California governor Gavin Newsom to act on Tory’s behalf with a pardon.

At writing, over 84,000 signatures have been amassed on the digital petition, but Newsom has not publicly responded to it.
