Chart Check: Lady Gaga’s ‘Die with a Smile’ Ties Dua Lipa’s ‘Levitating’ for Longest-Charting Female-Led Top 10 Hit in Hot 100 History

Nearly four years after levitating into Hot 100 history books for breaking Leann Rimes‘ record for longest-running top 10 hit by a woman, Dua Lipa is poised to see the title snatched from her thanks to the ongoing success of Lady Gaga‘s ‘Die with a Smile.’

Found at #7 this week, ‘Smile’ has spent 41 of its 42 weeks on the Hot 100 in the tally’s top 10. Here are the numbers that powered its placement this week.

  • Streams ≈ 14 million U.S.-based streams
  • Radio airplay ≈ 48.5 million audience impressions
  • Sales≈ 2,000 digital downloads

Already a record for any co-billed, male-female duet, the 41 weeks of ‘Smile’ in the chart’s topmost dectet also ties Lipa’s history-making, 41-week run of ‘Levitating.’

The tenancy makes the Bruno Mars-featured cut only the second female-led song in the Hot 100’s 66-year existence to hold onto the top 10 as long.

If it manages to maintain its footing in the chart region just one more week, ‘Smile’ will unseat Dua’s ‘Levitating’ as the longest-running top 10 hit by a female-led song – thereby making the British diva’s cut the longest-running solo top 10 hit by a female-led song.

At writing, Lipa’s smash – which spent a total of 77 weeks on the Hot 100 – remains the longest-charting hit by a woman overall (beyond the top 10).

Die With A Smile is a duet so how is it “female-led”? Meanwhile Levitating actually charted both with a feat and solo
