Keyshia Cole: I “Studied Beyonce” for How to Make It in the Music Industry

Published: Monday 2nd Jun 2025 by Rashad

Longtime fans of Keyshia Cole know about her checkered history with music megastar Beyonce, but – if Cole’s recent visit to the ‘Drink Champs‘ podcast is any indication – any negativity is all in the past.

The ‘Love’ singer may have earned herself a permanent spot on the ‘No, No, No’ list of the #Beyhive after she dissed components of Bey’s 2013 Super Bowl performance, but Keyshia still has serious love for the ‘Bow Down‘ diva.

A guest on ‘Drink Champs’ over the weekend, Cole dished on everything from her The Way It Is: 20th Anniversary Tour to time with Tupac, romantic life, and more.

When quizzed on if she loves Beyonce or Alicia Keys’ music more, she didn’t hesitate to crown the Queen Bey her favorite.

“I would have to say Beyonce,” Keyshia relayed before telling a story about how late Tony! Toni! Toné! star D’Wayne Wiggins impacted both their careers (as seen in the video above).

Later in her response, Cole surprised the panel by sharing how inspired she is by Bey’s work ethic.

“[His wife] would tell me stories about Beyonce and how focused she was and how she didn’t date no boys. She wasn’t like that. If I wanted to make it in the business, I had to really study that and not get in no relationships and focus on [music]. [Relationships] ain’t gonna help you make it,” she said. “I would study Beyonce for sure. ‘No, No, No’ was my thing; Destiny’s Child was my thing.’

The warm words come just days after Cole confirmed to the ‘Breakfast Club‘ she is still focused on making new music – an effort that could lead to the unveiling of her first album since 2017’s ’11:11 Reset.’

I love Keyshia but I believe those previous comments hurt her career. I don’t think it was the end all be all because the album she dropped afterwards just wasn’t good. She basically went against the biggest star in the world and then dropped a lame album. Huge no no.

Unfortunately you didn’t see that all the way thru Keyshia cause the moment you let your personal life speak louder than the music is when the music started underperforming
