Before Sunday (October 5), only six legendary female acts could boast placing a top 10 hit on the Billboard 200 over at least four distinct decades: Barbra Streisand, Madonna, Bette Midler, Cher, Shania Twain, and Janet Jackson.
That list got a supreme update this week, however, thanks to the handsome opening attached to Mariah Carey‘s 16th studio album ‘Here for It All.’
The #7 opening of ‘Here’ on the refreshed Billboard 200 was accompanied by a number of historic feats for the Songbird Supreme.
Beyond enjoying 35 years of non-stop top 10 entries of her studio albums, Carey – when all her projects (studio, specialty, compilation, etc.) are considered – moved up on the overall list of top 10 placements among women.
Now with 19 total titles to have landed in the Billboard 200 chart region, she trails only Madonna (23) and Streisand (34) in the record books.
Arguably, the project’s most understated achievement is its toast to Carey’s longevity.
With ‘Here,’ she joins an exclusive list of female hitmakers who can boast placing at least one top 10 studio album in the Billboard 200’s top 10 over four or more distinct decades.
See the current tally below.
- Barbra Streisand (6) – 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, 2010s
- Bette Midler (4) – 1970s, 1990s, 2000s, 2010s
- Cher (4) – 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, 2010s
- Madonna (4) – 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, 2010s
- Janet Jackson (4) – 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, 2010s

- Mariah Carey (4) – 1990s, 2000s, 2010s, 2020s
Note: the list reflects studio albums only and does not include Billboard 200 top 10 hits of specialty, compilation, or soundtrack projects.
Unlike the mega-divas who accompany her in the exclusive club, however, Mariah is the only member who has seen her first 16 studio album debut in the Billboard 200’s top 10.
