Spotify is under fire after a new class-action lawsuit surfaces alleging the platform ignored widespread fake streams that may have funneled massive payouts toward rap titan Drake.

According to new legal documents, plaintiffs, including veteran rapper RBX, allege that the Toronto rapper has reaped the rewards of “billions” of fake streams, ultimately shrinking payouts for smaller artists struggling to compete.
The suit targets Spotify’s royalty system, which pools streams before distributing payments, meaning that bogus activity allegedly boosts the earnings of big artists while short-changing others. Though Drake isn’t accused of wrongdoing and isn’t named as a defendant, the filing insists Spotify holds “voluminous information” tying him to bot-generated plays.
Plaintiffs are demanding a jury trial and major damages; meanwhile, Drake faces a separate case with Adin Ross tied to the alleged promotion of predatory online gambling.
