Eight long years have separated fans of Tamar Braxton (affectionately called #Tamartians) from her last body of work, 2017’s ‘Bluebird of Happiness’ LP, but the wait for a new effort finally came on Friday (November 7) courtesy of the ‘Heartbreak Retrograde’ EP.
The long-teased opus, once thought to be an album, was originally due in Spring 2025 but was delayed due to a number of setbacks including personal woes, uncleared samples, and more.
With those worries behind her, the GRAMMY nominee pushed full speed ahead with the ‘Retrograde’ era by introducing a short film in its support on Halloween – just days before the movie’s companion musical project hit digital Spotify and Apple Music shelves.

Silly cover lol but cohesive project. Ppl seem appreciative Tay toned down the high belts, and while I’d have loved a “Pick Me Up” to enliven the set, I get that uptempos wouldn’t befit a heartbreak theme. Glad you’ve found your musical and inner voice again just in time to expose Toni, Trina, and Towanda for the sneaky gaslighters the discerning eye has always suspected them of being! 🏅
Few listens in, “Love Me” & “Safer” are her new hits!
Tay’s music after L&W and CAL became too weepy for my taste.
This reigned-in approach sold me!
