Pharrell Williams‘ 2026 run is hitting a small but very loud speed bump as it pertains to the Chad Hugo lawsuit.
Just as the producer icon’s victory lap continues – Grammy nominations, major performances, and a buzzy biopic – longtime collaborator Hugo has stepped forward with a lawsuit that cuts straight to the legacy of The Neptunes and N.E.R.D.

As previously reported, Hugo alleges he’s been shortchanged on royalties tied to music sales, touring revenue, and merchandising, calling out what he claims is years of financial imbalance.
Reported by USA Today, Williams’ camp has pushed back, stating:
“The lawsuit filed is premature as there may not even be a dispute between the parties,” the statement continued. “If the accounting review determines that money is owed, the appropriate party will pay it. Pharrell has consistently acted in good faith. He has great respect for Chad and looks forward to resolving this in a way that honors their shared history.”
With the music and fashion icon set to take the Grammy stage alongside Clipse and riding high creatively, the dispute has striking time. Stay tuned to see how this unfolds.
