‘Put It Down’ diva Brandy is putting down some seriously jaw-dropping quotes in her highly anticipated memoir ‘Phases‘ which hit bookshelves on Tuesday (March 31).
And while longtime fans (affectionately known as #STARZ) snatched up the autobiography for tidbits on everything from her time with Whitney Houston to challenges with her brother Ray J, one-time beef with now-gal pal Monica, “spiritual union” and pregnancy, and other headline-grabbing moments from her storied life and career, one topic many were anxious for her to address was her romantic relationship with Boyz II Men star Wanya Morris.
And, to the surprise of readers, she really went there.
For the first time since their mid-90’s breakup, Brandy is opening up about her relationship with R&B star Wanya Morris.
According to her, their romance started when she 16 and he was in his early 20s – a union that blossomed after they collaborated on the 1994 hit ‘Brokenhearted.’
“I was in over my head. Sneaking around with Wanya and lying to my parents had become a constant. They barely liked the idea of me dating at all, and telling them about us was out of question,” Brandy said in her memoir ‘Phases.’
Later in the text, Brandy (now 47) even admitted she lost her virginity to the Boyz II Men singer (now 52) who later cheated on her – ultimately causing the dissolution of their romance.
“But it wasn’t just about upsetting — or disappointing — my parents. Wanya and I understood, with diamond-cut clarity that public knowledge of our relationship would ignite scandal, potentially threatening everything we’d both worked for, so he and I opted for elaborate fiction: we would pretend patience and claim we were waiting until my eighteenth birthday before pursuing any romantic connection.”
B-Rocka argues the consensual nature of their relationship did not overshadow the fact she was underage at the time they dated.
“I believe he took advantage…The shame ends here. The silence ends here,” she added. “I was not a fast girl with a crush. I was not a dramatic teenager who couldn’t handle rejection. I was not an unstable obsessive fan. I was a child. And he was an adult. And it’s time the world understood the difference.”
While this marks Bran’s first time publicly addressing their union, Morris’ has taken to the net many times to do so – even once asserting she was not underage at the time they dated and that her parents were not only aware but also approved of the relationship.
At writing, however, he’s not spoken out about the R&B diva’s take on the timeline.

I love my girl, Brandy, down to the ground, but she does love to put stuff on other people as far as blame is concerned in order to protect her image. I’m not saying it’s right, but I remember growing up at that time and it wasn’t uncommon for high school girls to be dating college aged men. Things are different now, but it was normal back then. Don’t ask me how I know. 💅🏾
You’re actually right it wasn’t right but it was definitely normal then and no 1 called the cops teens definitely dated men in their 20s. Honestly in today’s day and age he will be the 1 to blame consensual or not he won’t get a pass even though it was back then.
Yep! And keep in mind that Foxy said Jay was picking her up from school to “record” back in the day. Connect those dots.
What are we supposed to do with this information? Putting it out there at 47 years old to sell a book isn’t beneficial to anyone. We don’t see Brandy as a victim. We understand that the world was a different place back then and many questionable decisions were made by everyone during that era. Stuff like this should be written in her diary and occasionally revisited for her to reflect on to better understand herself as she ages. This information is of no value to the public in 2026.
i dont believe this sank ho. she plays victim but is the first to shade behind the scenes. she needs money and promo so the murderer is makin s*** up
Doing the most to try and sell some books.
Ever the avant-gardiste, Brandy kept a roster back then, even double dating Cam’Ron and Shyne at some point.
