Ryan Murphy may have created some of modern history’s most celebrated shows (see: ‘Nip/Tuck,’ ‘American Horror Story,’ ‘Monster,’ ‘Feud,’ etc.), but the EMMY, TONY, and GRAMMY-Award winning writer, director, and TV producer has reignited a feud between some of the entertainment industry’s biggest fan bases for his belief that Queen of Pop Madonna‘s reign extends across all genres of music.
Much like Beyonce fans (also known as the #Beyhive) who cried foul at her omission from New York Times‘ recent “30 Greatest Living Songwriters” tally, Madge fans echoed the sentiment at her name being left off the list.
Among those making headlines for the dissension is Murphy who took to Instagram to voice his disapproval.
“Madonna is THE most important artist of the last 50 years. No one comes close in cultural import, other than Taylor Swift and Paul McCartney, both of whom are truly incredible artists for the ages,” he shared via a lengthy comment on the MadonnaLiteral fan page. “The hate Madonna has received, and survived. It’s beyond comprehension. There is no one in my lifetime who has meant more to me, or had more of an impact on art, fashion, music, ALL OF IT. Than Madonna.”
As his statement started making its rounds and getting mixed reactions across social media, Ryan weighed in again to double down on his stance.
“I stand behind this 100 percent. How can you not include Madonna on this list?! It’s insane not to. And my deeper question is WHY are other artists who Madonna paved the way for not saying this? So many of them walk down paths Madonna paved ALONE,” he relayed.
And while the debate ignited from his commentary rages on, Madonna, Taylor, nor ‘New York Times’ has weighed in on the hoopla…yet.
Ryan’s high praise of Madge follows similar adulation delivered by Hall & Oates legend Daryl Hall who claimed “modern Pop music wouldn’t exist without her.” Revisit his statement here.

her biggest song is a culture vulture moment. She’s the kim k of music
She’s becoming one of the Jenners now, collecting filler and botox as well as black toy boys like it’s a full-time hobby..sad!
What a bland white thing to say
This is his truth. But it’s definitely not true for us.
Her quality been trash for like 10 years now. She ain’t hit the same since Confessions era…
Kabbalah really took her off the rails — now she’s on TikTok acting like an old lady, same weird energy Tom Cruise brings to Scientology
Just like I Am Mariah… The Elusive Chanteuse 2014… her career lost momentum after Hard Candy…
For white people that may be true. We need to understand they have their culture and black people, we have our seasoned culture. We aren’t the same. That’s cool. We do no listen to no damn Taylor Swift.
Taylor’s music for the L GBTQ+ community, girls with trust issues and people who think a breakup is a personality trait.
Yawn…YT gay men like him, Andy Cohen, Anderson Cooper and Perez Hilton should never give opinions on life and art. Most of their art is stolen or influenced by black women but this checks out though. YT gays live in an ignorant bubble like YT woman to where they truly believe this nonsense and forget about the artist of color who can do it 10xs better than their favorites. Black women have SOUL and that is why they will always be on top!
Black women be angry af and ones like cowdung carter want to be white (while cosplaying being black proud ) so……
And white women arent equally as angry? Wtf are you even saying. Everyday I wake up I see a white woman going off in rage via social media and in real life in the same way and fashion that a black woman is entitled to go off and be “angry”. You sound barbaric.
😆
Beyoncé’s cowboy album is hilarious because apparently country music needed a billionaire to show it how to be relevant..pftt
Plus, all the needy/power bottoms at Pitchfork reviewing albums 🙁
Things ghey white men say, Chile.
😒💅🏾
Not when Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston exist
Madonna is a legend but she shouldn’t be part of the best songwriters a live list.
She’s the queen of pop
Mj is the King
Janet is a queen 2 but I can’t really put her on the same level because she doesn’t have the impact globally and genre explorations like Madonna and that’s what make a real queen of pop.
Gaga is the next in line
And Beyoncé is the queen of R&B Pop because she’s not pure pop.
Janet can be the queen of R&B POP 2 though but Beyonce got more impact globally so it’s Beyonce I guess.
Christina is the queen of vocal Pop
Britney is the queen of Y2K Pop
Missy is the queen of hip hop
Lil kim the queen of the gold era of rap
Nicki the queen of modern rap
Taylor swift is the queen of white girls pop
😂
Im sorry but Whitney is the Queen of Pop imo. Whitney’s movie wasn’t a hit like Michaels but it still was a hit in its own way. Keep in mind it was voided of all scandal and defamation that she faced. Madonna would have to include every aspect of her life that includes all her raunchy and inappropriate moments in order for her movie to really touch people in the way their movies did. MJ and Nippy are the Royals of Pop. Madonna and Prince are the Rebels of Pop. No comparison.
Rebels of Pop is an interesting take.
Now about Whitney, she’s the OG Queen of vocal pop
Christina is the second Queen of vocal pop
And Pink is the queen of rock pop
