Gabrielle Union may have turned most heads when she hit the red carpet of the 2026 Met Gala on Monday night (May 4), but there was at least one reporter there who caught some heat on social media for not being able to keep her eyes off another star: Australian Pop star Troye Sivan.

Drawing comparisons to that Babyface / Chappell Roan fiasco at the 2025 GRAMMYs, a female reporter at the Met Gala experienced some serious backlash on social media Monday after Met Gala viewers caught wind of her abrupt interruption of Union’s interview to shout out to Sivan.
In the now-viral clip (seen above), Gabrielle, 53, is seen answering questions for several outlets before a rep from one randomly started yelling over her.
“Troye! Are you making new music?,” she unexpectedly asked as Troye walked by. “When is it coming out?”
Inciting backlash, X (formerly known as Twitter) users rushed to weigh in.
One person posted, “this is so disrespectful, no one gives a f— about troye sivan’s music,” while another wrote, “I’m tired of these unqualified journalists & interviewers, this is so disrespectful ughhh.”
A third shared, “So disrespectful to the person she is interviewing,” while another relayed, “Who are these unprofessional journalists? FIRE THEM.”
At writing, Union, Sivan, nor a rep from the reporter’s company has taken to social media to respond to the brewing backlash.
