Clive Davis Memorial: Music Royalty Gathers to Honour Mogul

Clive Davis was remembered as a music legend at a star-studded funeral and memorial service that drew some of the biggest names in the industry.

The service took place on Monday (June 29) at Central Synagogue in Manhattan. It was closed to the public but livestreamed.

Kenny G played a mournful sax solo to open the service. Dionne WarwickBarry ManilowBruce SpringsteenAlicia KeysJa Rule, and Stevie Wonder were among the musical stars in attendance. Nancy PelosiAdrien BrodyHoda Kotb, and Gayle King were also present.

Rabbi Angela Warnick Buchdahl remarked on the turnout. She said:

“Clive would have loved this.”

Davis died on June 22 at age 94. He had been hospitalized for an upper respiratory issue.

The record executive launched and shepherded the careers of numerous stars, including Whitney Houston, Springsteen, and Keys. He also influenced Carlos SantanaJanis Joplin, and the Grateful Dead.

Manilow also shared a memory. Davis urged him to record a song called ‘Brandy.’ Manilow turned it into ‘Mandy,’ which hit #1.
