The artist, born David Anthony Burke, appeared in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Wednesday. His defence team requested more time, and the judge agreed to push the hearing from June 29 to July 21.

Judge Charlaine F. Olmedo set a status conference for July 7. The judge found “good cause” to continue the hearing after reading a sealed declaration from Burke’s attorney.

“Thank you, your honour.”

Burke was arrested on April 16 and charged with first-degree murder, continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14, and unlawful mutilation of human remains. Prosecutors added special circumstance allegations of murder of a witness, murder for financial gain, and lying in wait. Consequently, he is ineligible for bail.

Prosecutors allege Burke killed 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez in July 2025 and left her dismembered remains in the trunk of his Tesla for weeks. The car was later impounded, and investigators discovered the remains on September 8.

The hearing is expected to last several days with multiple witnesses. The judge will decide if prosecutors have enough evidence for a jury trial.
