Kirk Franklin Held Back After Man Tells Him and His Wife: "You're Going to Hell! Repent"

Kirk Franklin had to be restrained after a heated exchange.

The Gospel legend was held back after a man told him and his wife they were going to “hell.”

Full story below…

The confrontation occurred after Franklin’s set at Philadelphia’s Gospel on Independence concert was cancelled on Sunday due to a severe storm.

He climbed onto the roof of his SUV to greet fans after the cancellation.

A man then confronted the 56-year-old musician. Franklin tried to embrace him to de-escalate the tension, but the man declined. He repeatedly told Franklin: “You need to repent.”

It was only when the man told him, “You and your wife are going to go to hell” that Franklin became angry. Security had to hold him back, and someone told the man to leave.

Franklin appeared to reference the incident in an Instagram post. He wrote:

“I need the weather to repent! LOL!”

The post included footage from a performance in Norfolk, Virginia, and additional footage of Franklin mingling with fans in Philly.

Franklin was set to headline the annual Wawa Welcome America celebration. The show featured singer Paula Holloway and a choir of over 100 singers before lightning and an approaching storm brought the evening to an end.
