Starring Jaafar Jackson and directed by Antoine Fuqua, the film has shattered records worldwide, including the biggest global opening weekend ever for a music biopic and becoming Lionsgate’s highest-grossing theatrical release in history.
Despite production hurdles, including reported $50 million in reshoots, the gamble has clearly paid off.
