Billboard 200: KATSEYE Score Biggest Girl Group Album Debut in Nearly 20 Years

KATSEYE have officially gone ‘WILD’ on the Billboard 200.

For, the global girl group have not only charged to the summit with their latest EP, they’ve done so with a seismic opening that places them in rare company.

Full story below…

KATSEYE’s ‘WILD’ First-Week Sales

First-Week Sales [SPS]: 170,000 units
First-Week Sales [Pure]: 145,000 units
Billboard 200 Debut: #1

Per Billboard, ‘WILD’ storms in at #1 with 170,000 equivalent album units earned in the US.

The result comfortably surpasses the initial 120,000-140,000 projection and gifts the six-piece their first Billboard 200 chart-topper.

More broadly, the mammoth launch represents the biggest first week for a girl group in 18 years, since Danity Kane opened their sophomore album ‘Welcome to the Dollhouse’ with 236,000 copies in 2008.

It is also the largest week by equivalent album units for an all-woman group since the Billboard 200 adopted its current units-based methodology in December 2015.

Of ‘WILD’s’ total, 145,000 came from pure sales, while 24,500 streaming units were powered by 26.95 million official on-demand streams.

The milestone marks another major leap for KATSEYE, whose ‘Beautiful Chaos’ peaked at #4 last year. The group have kept the momentum accelerating this era with ‘Pinky Up,’ ‘Animal,’ and a fiery ‘Tonight Show’ performance.

The achievement also arrives amid a slightly unusual chapter for the group, with Manon currently on hiatus and Sophia also stepping back from select activities. Even so, the ‘WILD’ era is clearly maintaining major commercial momentum.

From #4 to #1 and a history-making opening to match. Quite the glow-up.

That is not a win!! It’s messy and floppy!! TLC and Destiny’s Child, Spice Girls did triple those numbers and that was without streaming
