The Recording Academy has officially responded to BTS. CEO Harvey Mason Jr. stated this after the K-pop group announced they would not submit music for the 2027 Grammys.

Earlier this week, all seven members of BTS posted identical statements on Instagram.
The group said they want their music “heard and loved for what it is, rather than being divided by region or language.” The move was widely seen as a protest against the new Best Asian Pop Music Performance category.
Mason Jr. expressed disappointment while respecting their choice. He said:
“I am saddened to hear that BTS has chosen not to participate in the Grammy Awards process this year, but as a music creator, I understand and respect their decision.”

He clarified the category’s purpose, stating:
“The Asian Pop category was created to celebrate the depth, diversity and extraordinary growth of pop artistry coming out of Asia. The spirit of this new category is to shine a dedicated spotlight on these important artists. It’s never to divide.”
Mason Jr. stressed that genre categories do not exclude artists from major General Field awards, including Album, Record, and Song of the Year. BTS has five Grammy nominations but has never won.
Grammy’s are a joke, purchased a bought by Beyonce and Jay-Z. Beyonce will try to submit under the “Asian Pop” category if given a chance….watch and find out
