Director Veronica Rodriguez explained the thought process behind Lovato’s return. She said:
“We wanted to find the right balance of how much she should be in the film and what Mitchie’s involvement looked like. Her character literally says in the movie, ‘This isn’t about me, it’s about them. It’s their time to shine.'”
Liamani Segura and Malachi Barton star in the new movie alongside Lumi Pollack, Sherry Cola, and others. Maria Canals-Barrera reprises her role as Mitchie’s mom.
The first two Camp Rock films premiered in 2008 and 2010. They remain among the top 10 Disney Channel Original Movies of all time.
