Miley Cyrus is mourning the loss of her beloved godmother, Dolly Parton, following the Country music icon’s death at 80.

Taking to Instagram Wednesday (August 26), Cyrus reflected on the deeply personal bond they shared, describing Parton as “Aunt Dolly.”
The ‘Party in the USA’ singer shared:
“The feeling of losing my Aunt Dolly is beyond what feels right to share. Our most sacred moments were private and they’ll stay there behind the stage, beneath the glamour & between our hearts.”
She also recalled one of their final conversations, which centered on music and transformation. Cyrus went on to say that:
“What I KNOW is Dolly would want me to feel it, write a song about it, and then continue on and be strong. I have an angel by my side. I always have.”
The pair’s connection spanned decades. Parton became Cyrus’ godmother after developing a friendship with her father, Country superstar Billy Ray Cyrus, and later played “Aunt Dolly” on ‘Hannah Montana.’
Their relationship also flourished musically, with the two sharing performances and collaborations throughout the years.
Notably performing Parton’s famous hit ‘Jolene’ together many times and co-writing ‘Rainbowland’ and Cyrus’ album ‘Younger Now.’
