William Orbit has passed away. The GRAMMY-winning producer, best known for his work on Madonna‘s Ray of Light and hits for All Saints and Blur, died at age 69.

His family confirmed the news on his official Instagram on Friday (August 7). They said he passed away at home on July 23. No cause of death was provided.
The statement read:
“It is with profound sadness that the family and friends of William Orbit announce that William passed away at home on 23rd July 2026. He will be greatly missed by us and by so many whose lives he touched through his music, friendship and kindness.”
Orbit won three GRAMMYs for his work on Madonna’s 1998 album Ray of Light, which spawned hits like ‘Frozen‘ and the title track. He also produced Blur’s ‘13‘, U2’s ‘Electrical Storm,’ and All Saints’ ‘Pure Shores.’
He worked with Britney Spears, Pink, Robbie Williams, and Beth Orton over his decades-long career.
He released several solo albums, including the Strange Cargo series.
Tributes have poured in from across the music world. UK singer Sonique said: “He was one of the first people I ever worked with. I am so sad to hear this”.
Spice Girls star Mel C added:

What a tragedy… It really breaks my heart… He produced my favorite albums from Madonna, my favorite song from the All Saints and had a wonderful collaboration with the Sugababes on Spiral. He wanted to work again with Madonna on a Ray Of Light 2… I can’t imagine how she must feel right now…
