The Recording Academy is moving forward with its controversial new Best Asian Pop Music Performance category at the 2027 Grammys.

The organization confirmed Thursday (October 1) that the award will remain on the ballot following weeks of discussions with artists, executives, and industry leaders from across the Asian music community.
The decision comes after BTS announced in July that they would not submit their music for Grammy consideration this year, citing concerns about the new category and expressing a desire for music to be recognized beyond regional or language divisions.
However, the Academy says:
“This category recognizes artistic excellence in Asian pop music performances. Eligible recordings include contemporary popular music originating from or widely recognized within Asian markets, including K-pop, J-pop and C-pop.”
Eligible recordings are required to feature meaningful use of an Asian language.
First-round voting begins October 12, with nominees set to be announced November 16. The 69th annual Grammys will take place February 7, 2027.

That’s on BTS if they don’t want to submit their music. The Grammys will continue to do what they do and so should BTS, but it’s a shame as much work they have done they won’t submit
