Rick Ross is no longer facing a felony battery-by-strangulation charge in his Miami domestic violence case.

Prosecutors are proceeding with one misdemeanor battery count, according to updated local reporting following Friday’s hearing. The case remains open.

The October 30 development follows the postponement of Ross’ earlier arraignment, when prosecutors requested more time before formally pursuing charges.

Reporting from the latest proceedings, WSVN said the rapper’s attorney appeared on his behalf and confirmed that the felony allegation would not proceed.

“They’ve gone forward with one count, the one count of misdemeanor battery.”

NBC6 also reports that the state is pursuing a single battery/domestic violence misdemeanor and that Ross has pleaded not guilty.

The Rap star turned himself in on October 1 over an alleged August incident at his Star Island home.

According to the police account cited by NBC6, his then-girlfriend alleged that he struck and choked her during a confrontation. Those remain allegations.

Ross has publicly denied wrongdoing, and his legal team continues to maintain his innocence.

The decision removes the more serious charge from the prosecution. It does not resolve the remaining battery case or constitute a finding on the underlying allegations.
