Paul McCartney Praises Usher’s ‘Climax’

Published: Thursday 18th Apr 2013 by David

When it comes to pleasing fans, very few come better than Usher.

Securing chart success with dance numbers while leading the way for R&B’s freshest stars with ‘Climax’, he has come under heavy praise from ‘Beatles’ legend Paul McCartney thanks to that very song.

Details below…

Co-written and produced by the singer himself, Elijah Blake and Diplo, this week saw Mark Ronson (the producer of McCartney’s new album) speak to Wenner’s ‘Rolling Stone’ about the time he played the love song for the legend. Upon hearing it, Paul shared:

I love where all the sonics sit in this.”

His thoughts on the cut come two months after it picked up the Grammy award for Best R&B Performance and peaked at #1 on the US Hot R&B/Hip Hop songs chart. Pulled from the star’s latest album ‘Looking For Myself’, the song precedes the release of Dance smash ‘Scream’ and the aforementioned Blake’s debut mix tape ‘Bijoux 22‘.

  2. HausMuthaAdele April 18, 2013

He wrote this song too?! What kind of monopoly!

  3. NΛVI April 18, 2013

That song is a classic, I don’t care what anyone else says. One of Usher’s best to date yet underrated.

    • Navy Sailor!!! April 18, 2013

I totally agree. Usher is one of the best male vocalists out there right now.

      • DOSSOME April 18, 2013

Not just now,he’s been one of the strongest vocalists of the last 2 decades

  4. King B>Rihanna April 18, 2013

  6. DOSSOME April 18, 2013

Go Missin’ is amazing too…I’ve been a fan since the 90s with 8701 being my favorite album..CLIMAX was revolutionary RnB,too bad he followed up with SCREAM,that just killed the potential L4M had

    • POP ROYALTY ( RUDE BOY) April 18, 2013

      I Love you 😀

USHER is not only R&B tho , he’s so much more.

the fact he didn’t release “euphoria” as a single make me mad as hell.

  7. LetsWinThis April 18, 2013

Yes Usher is talent but he doesn’t know his identity is the reson for the recent flops. Jermanie Dupree gave Usher his identity on 8701 and Confessions. That’s why when he stop working with JD everything started to flop. Sure he had a few hits here or there, but nothing solid. I must admit that “Climax” is a classic, but what good was it on the L4M album, when the other music was such a confusing sound.

    • POP ROYALTY ( RUDE BOY) April 18, 2013

F*** “JD” , an artist should be brave enough to get out of the BOX , especially if that Box is not selling enough these days. nothing wrong with collaborating with guetta or any hot producer , INNOVATE , change it up.

he still give you some R&B gems but you R&B non-buying h*** stay ungrateful , you just can afford to go and say ” oh , he is a sell out” , i wish international fans drag your asses if we ever saw you s*** talkers.

here you have fantasia for example , you don’t support her despite her being a LEGEND in the making giving a respectful support , you know why , cuz you don’t buy or support your ppl , you are so busy hating on them for free.

I’m a fan and i’m happy with everything that came before ‘confessions’ !! but you seasonal fans are doing the most.

he stay giving you R&B tho , but he knows the truth.

      • CzarM April 18, 2013

F*** Guetta. You couldn’t drag a Cheerio with a piece of string, you clown. All you are is some cyber midget who talks s*** in the comments section of a music blog to feel tall, but in real life probably couldn’t intimidate a mouse. “International fans,” my ass. Where are these illustrious “international fans” at, prey tell? And just how have the boosted any of his receipts?

You stay talking s*** about R&B audiences, and how they supposedly don’t support artists and yada-yada-yay, but Usher’s *biggest* selling albums are thoroughly R&B. Usher’s *lowest* seller, meanwhile, was that ridiculous hodgepodge album that came out last year that tried to straddle the fence with Dance/Pop for you ridiculous “Call Me Maybe” queens; so what good did that do him? His alleged pop fans didn’t pick up the slack from those non-buying R&B fans you’re talking out of your ass about and buy that b******* either…and he actually courted you. So now what?

When Usher went out of the “BOX,” started working with jokers like Guetta and making himself look silly with EDM, he lost a good 50% of his fan base and commercially faltered like he never had before. That’s what your precious venturing out of your “BOX” did for him — which is probably why he’s reuniting with JD (the producer who is responsible for over 50% of his hits) and trying desperately to win back those disillusioned fans by giving them what’s already being described as ‘Confessions – Part II.’

Heh. It’s too bad those “international” fans didn’t support him enough to keep him free of that “BOX” that seems to bother you so much. Usher got a chilling wake up call after he decided to try and pander to corny dorks like you (who are deluded enough to consider the likes of David Guetta “innovative”) and learned that no one was there for it.

yes , write essays and tell me why you mad

        i won’t read all that , i’m sorry.

    • Real April 18, 2013

ITA with LetsWinThis. F*** L4M. That album is Usher in lost mode. It’s like he had no idea who he was anymore and his fans responded to it with a resounding THUD, which is why it became the poorest selling album of his career. I think even his largely overlooked debut from ’94 may have even sold more than that crap. No one was here for Usher trying fight a split personality who thought he was a member of LMFAO, which is why it flopped. Less than 10 years before, Usher literally owned the music world with Confessions. L4M was an embarrassment on all levels.

On the bright side: Usher is working on a new album WITH Jermaine Dupri, so hopefully their reunion will give me some My Way/8701/Confessions teas. I wanna see him reunite with Babyface and Jam & Lewis too. Give me that CLASSIC Usher album.

      F*** L4M.

  8. Butterfly April 18, 2013

Climax is easily his new classic, it showed that Usher is one of the strongest, if not the best vocalist out of the male singer that have been out for the past generation. His songwriting is underrated as well. He has influenced so many people and not a lot realize that, or give him credit for it.

  9. notadummy April 18, 2013

This site is getting CHECKs from DEF JAM. Rita Ora, Elijah Blake. Give us a effing break. He is not that good of a singer. #youneedtoquit

    • BitchyBey April 18, 2013

Rita isn’t on Def Jam though.

    • POP ROYALTY ( RUDE BOY) April 18, 2013

IT IS FUNNY I KEEP IGNORING that guy despite him being in almost every post in TGJ.

  10. rnblovers April 18, 2013

climax is a masterpiece….usher is the best from 20 years…

  11. Usher is the SAVIOR n 2nd KING OF R&B(Kellz is the Godfather btw) April 18, 2013

I agree. Climax is usher’s latest masterpiece. It is revolutionary rnb and a few dumbasses still don’t see the genuis behind the song. Usher to me, is the best vocalist out there because onlike say trey songz, usher got that unique original voice. When i listen to trey sing, all i think of is kellz. Miguel too got good vocals though his only strength is his falsetto n u can also see that he’s got that Usher influence. Same goes for Frank Ocean. So i believe Usher is the best(both in studio n live) vocalist out there!!

    • Gee April 18, 2013

His voice has surpassed any male contemporary out of his generation. I think it’s at 4 octaves and that’s just his live range. I’m a girl, and I can’t even hit some of the notes he hits in his songs.

  12. POP ROYALTY ( RUDE BOY) April 18, 2013

yes paulie , you better stan 🙂

i stay proud of him by the sec. USHER IS AN ICON.

    *plays the girl is mine*

  13. Real April 18, 2013

I totally disagree. I think “Climax” is just ‘OK’ but pales in comparison to those previous Jermaine Dupri-produced ballads.

    Nice and Slow >>> Climax
U Got It Bad >>> Climax
    Burn >>> Climax
    Confessions >>> Climax

I do not like Usher venturing into hipster and PBR&B…and that’s what “Climax” was. I hated the electro element of it. Usher needs JD’s more slickly produced R&B ballads and mid-tempo jams back. He’s completely lost his identity.

    • POP ROYALTY ( RUDE BOY) April 18, 2013

just go to iTunes , click playlists > “90’s music” and STFU.

and again , we are in 2013 , “nice and slow” won’t sell nowadays for example !!

      • Real April 18, 2013

Shut up you tight pants wearing homo with sissy ass taste. “Climax” was just a water down MEDIOCRE “Nice and Slow” + tacky trippy sound effects that were totally unnecessary and stupid. So STFU for example. You empty non masculine F****** with gay ass taste in music you. This conversation is a little too MALE for you, Ru Paul. You dont know s*** about nothing that aint fruity Katy Perry & Rihanna talentless asses squealing over a gay ass thumpa thumpa electro beat for your effeminate ass to put on a wig and drag race to while your daddy (if you ever met him) looks on in shame and embarrassment.

        F***** fairy.

  14. S****** Blonde April 18, 2013

My namesake must be smoking Maria during the interview or maybe he confuse the title song with the real Clima, i still love my shy Beatle though…Masterpiece. LOL.

    • POP ROYALTY ( RUDE BOY) April 18, 2013

stay mad , just like britney’s ex from n*sync.

      • S****** Blonde April 18, 2013

How you dare to shades Justin, what the f*** is that “Britney’s ex”, messy b****.

  15. rnblovers April 18, 2013

Usher is still Mr.Entertainment….is still THE KING!!! everything else is boring

  16. Joya April 18, 2013

Usher’s got better songs than that. Even “The Many Ways” shits all over “Climax.” I used to be a major Usher head, but he’s almost lost me in the new 2010’s. Now I can only tolerate him based on the song. Im’a need him to get his head back on straight and give me another My Way-8701-Confessions so I can put back on my stan cap. RCA Records is obviously Timberlake country. He needs to jump ship over to Epic to work under L.A. Reid again. He’d know how to bring the real Usher back!

  17. Arie April 19, 2013

I think Usher is a great entertainer but as a fan I hate the direction he has taken with his music so therefore I have not supported any of his recent efforts. As someone has clearly stated Usher lost his identity after he stopped working with Jermaine and changed management, its as if he was not involved in creating his brand so when those people were not involved he lacked direction. I am all for artists experimenting with different sounds but also you have to be aware of your core audience and try and meet their demands because unfortunately consumers are king. Climax is a good song but more importantly I think it came at a great time for me because I had just given up on Usher, he was on my used to be list so now I am still hanging in there because I have renewed hope that he will get it right.
