The Dream: ‘Rihanna Does My Music The Most Justice’

Published: Tuesday 4th Jun 2013 by David

He’s the creative genius behind Beyonce‘s  ‘Single Ladies‘.

However, in an interview with ‘V Magazine’, The Dream has revealed that it is Rihanna who does his music the most justice.

Details below…

Excerpt from ‘V’ below:

“How does one go about getting a Dream track?

TD: Honestly, the best way is to show up with about fifty thousand dollars in cash… Boom… That’s the easy route. Wherever I am, you show up with fifty, you probably got a song. It’s going down.

Of all the artists you’ve worked with, who would you say has done you most justice?
TD: As far as my whole sound, my tone and melodicness, I’d probably have to say Rihanna.

Is that because of “Umbrella”?
TD: No. It’s more because our tones are so similar—from a sonic standpoint.
Since “Umbrella,” your sound’s been recognized by the presence of ‘ella’s’ and ‘ey’s’—the melodic mark of Radio Killa… where did that whole thing come from?

TD: ‘Ella’ was just literally me playing on the word ‘umbrella’ at the time. It was a way to bridge the gaps in the song, connect the measures. When “Umbrella” hit so hard and had such an impact, it kind of just became my calling card.

Like my own little marketing campaign for myself that I’d put into songs to bring them all together.

They never previously existed before “Umbrella.” It was so hooky that I’d use it in other songs of mine and that’s how it became a signature.

Originally, it was just tying the beats and the words together, and it worked. I actually don’t do it as much anymore, though… I’ve come to let the songs have to be what they are.”

What do you think of his comments?

    • KNUCK June 4, 2013

Hell naw.. Rihanna makes him the most money.. His s*** sucks anyway. Basic tunes for basic artists. This includes Beyonce. Mariah’s fans kinda know better and won’t stand for Dream’s s*** concepts. And I don’t stan for any of these h***. It just is what it is.

      • hah June 4, 2013

Nothing to start hate over. Rihanna gives him the most control & her voice actually compliments his sound. Beyonce, on the other hand, has a very specific sound which restricts him.

        lol this site

  2. Gimme More June 4, 2013

We all know Umbrella was meant for Britney Spears though. Ri got the left overs.

    • Tiffany8474505 June 4, 2013

Well it worked out for her. That song made Rihanna a SUPERSTAR & HOUSEHOLD NAME!

    • RiRi Bad June 4, 2013

The left over that made her a mega star

    • Tito June 4, 2013

Actually Umbrella was written for Mary J Blige orginally….it was only shopped to Brittney after Mary turned it down. And as far as left overs….most of Brittney’s hits are Janet’s leftovers

      • hah June 4, 2013

yeah this comment makes no sense, all artists are shopped and given turned down songs. its what you do with the song that counts. Bey’s Scared of Lonely was orignally meant for Brandy so…

  3. KING RIH June 4, 2013

I predict another stan war. Silly children. Fall for anything.

What other RIhanna hit does he have? Hard?
What other Bey hit does he have? ummmmm…

    See nothing worth arguing about

    • @Fashionjunkiee June 5, 2013

      Speaking on behalf of their most recent albums;
He wrote 90% of the 4 album.
and half of the songs from Unapologetic.

As for hits; Rihanna is about to release Right Now.. co-written by the dream. And he also wrote Birthday Cake.

      So there’s that.

Side Bar: I find it hilarious that Single Ladies is the only song The Dream wrote on IAMSF and it was her biggest pop hit. So in result, he wrote the most of 4. Ctfu her thirsty ass.

  4. JJFan1814 June 4, 2013

No lies here. The Dream + Rihanna = Great music. No one can deny that!!!

The Dream is a remarkable artist//songwriter, Rihanna kills anything she’s given…

Can’t say the sme about Rita Ora, Samantha. 🙁

    • Ballsy June 4, 2013

See not everyone knows how to make a hit. THE DREAM can write songs all he wants but if the artist cant deliver it’s a wrap! Say what you can about Rihanna but the bish makes the songs a hit. Look at what is happening to the BAD RIHMIX as we speak…It peaked higher that the original in the 1 day it’s been release and watch it go number 1!

  5. JJFan1814 June 4, 2013

    The Dream contributed to…

    “Breakin’ Dishes”
    “Lemme Get That”
    “Sell Me Candy”
    “Umbrella”
    “Hatin’ On The Club”
    “Hard” (featuring Jeezy)
    “Rockstar 101” (featuring Slash)
    “Birthday Cake”
    “Red Lipstick
    “Do Ya Thang”
    “Phresh Out the Runway”
    “Right Now” (featuring David Guetta)
    “Nobody’s Business” (featuring Chris Brown)
“Love Without Tragedy / Mother Mary”

  6. Tiffany8474505 June 4, 2013

LOL This article is to start a stan war! I hope Rihanna fans don’t fall for it. The shade is they asked who does YOUR songs justice. He answered Rihanna. As if Umbrella is not even a Rihanna song LMAO. SHADEEEEE

    • @Fashionjunkiee June 5, 2013

So I’m guessing single ladies isn’t a Beyonce song right? B**** please. If there was shade, it towards Beyonce.
And that’s FINE because Beyonce will still call his hit-making ass up for another single so it will be MUMS THE WORD on her behalf.
      Deal.

  7. Yaz June 4, 2013

The dream has also produced for
    BRITNEY SPEARS
    MARIAH CAREY
    JUSTIN BIEBER
    MARY J BLIGE
    CIARA
    USHER
Yet you wanna make this just about Beyonce and Rihanna. He produces for Rihanna the most so of course he would say. I highly doubt he was being shady since some if thise artists are like his family.

    • @Fashionjunkiee June 5, 2013

“He produces for Rihanna the most so of course he would say [Rihanna]” FOH. He produces for Beyonce just as much.
      Peep the 4 album.
The truth is the truth. F*** yu typing paragraphs about his sentence for? smh.
      Good day.

  8. Davis June 4, 2013

Cool. Now ask him who is the most talented person you have produced for…

  9. Britney Stan June 4, 2013

Im sorry but this site is so pathetic & desperate for always trying to start these Beyonce/ Rihanna stan wars….Your gimmick to get hits on this site are getting old

  10. RiRi Bad June 4, 2013

Rihanna has given him the most hits & visa versa… The dream is a great producer & song writer.

I want albums , not records.

  12. Brandys Starr June 4, 2013

If you actually read and understood the comment its got nothing to with hits, its the sound interpretation because Rihanna sounded the most like him. And yawn at you firgetting to mention all the other big names hes worked with. Im sure the Hive and Navy will fall for it.

  13. #Beyindependent June 4, 2013

@SAM is the type of hive member i don’t like always having to add Beyonce into the mix makes you look pressed & intimidated…You give people ammo to come for Beyonce when the s*** doesn’t even involve her.

    • Brandys Starr June 4, 2013

No he just wants hits for his site.

  14. JARED (WHITE DUDE) June 4, 2013

Firstly, firsty exactly did Beyonce need to be thrown into this? Isn’t this post ‘solely’ about ‘The-Dream & Rihanna’? Oh yes… I forgot. @Sam is in need of another ‘stan-war’ fix.

      Exactly.

    • steph June 4, 2013

Michael Jackson wrote most of all his songs.
Mariah Carey wrote most of all her hits.

  15. Tori June 4, 2013

Well he produced so much for Rihanna out of everyone would we expect him to say anything else? It would be a diss if he said anyone else.

    • @Fashionjunkiee June 5, 2013

He produced and wrote Beyonce’s most successful hit since crazy in love and 90% of the 4 album.

I’m sure you can see the true diss at this point.

  16. Georgie June 4, 2013

Hes also said Beyonce is the best performer since Michael Jackson but you didnt post that. He’ll give credit where it is due, no need to s*** stir.

  17. truth(icki’s B**** ASS STANS can EAT ME honey!! Yall b**** is a STANK P**** FLOP chile! (puckers lips like Drake)) June 4, 2013

I dont know WHY yall wanna start a stan war when ALL yall do is mess with other ppl comments by either removing them or not let the replies post to the person we replyn too like yall were doin yesterday. Imma sit this war out. Thanks!

  18. Carpet muncher June 4, 2013

He also said that Ciara is OVER 😆

  19. Carpet muncher June 4, 2013

    Boring.

  20. KNUCK June 4, 2013

Hell naw.. Rihanna makes him the most money.. His s*** sucks anyway. Basic tunes for basic artists. This includes Beyonce. Mariah’s fans kinda know better and won’t stand for Dream’s s*** concepts. And I don’t stan for any of these h***. It just is what it is.

Just because something is a hit doesn’t mean it’s good music.

  21. JER June 4, 2013

She does, and The Dream should be on hands and knees thankful that Rihanna chose “Umbrella” and made it her lead single. It was a MOMENT for both of them. Who knows where either would be without the success of that song. All I know is Rihanna had success before “Umbrella,” Dream did not. Dream’s ego is so big. Between him and will.amina I really don’t know which basic b**** hasthe bigger ego.

  22. XtinaaLovee June 4, 2013

The dream is trash & so is Rihanna & Beyonce…..

    • Navy Sailor June 4, 2013

      Says this Trashtina stan….

  23. DOSSOME June 4, 2013

    What are his biggesthits?

    1.Umbrella – Rihanna
    2.Single Ladies – Beyonce
3.Touch My Body – Mariah Carey
    4.Bed – J Holiday
    5.Hard – Rihanna
    6.Baby – Justin Bieber
    7.Obsessed – Mariah Carey
    8.Run The World – Beyonce
    9.Just Fine – Mary J Blige
    10.Me against the Music – Britney ft.Madonna

With the exception of Bieber, majority of the artists mentioned above have recorded and released waaaaay better songs than the ones they did with this man.

    • POP ROYALTY (Bohemian Grove) June 4, 2013

actually if you thought about it , you will find his songs always end up being the artist worst.

I don’t like umbrella that much and i think it is so overrated “same goes to SL” , don’t know about you and ‘touch my body/obsessed” but those are my least fav MC songs as well.

      • DOSSOME June 4, 2013

Touch My Body is her WORST song IMO,right down there with LOVERBOY….As for OBSESSED,i like the lyrics (SHADE) and the beat but the autotune<<<<<<<

  24. POP ROYALTY (Bohemian Grove) June 4, 2013

he need those “Navi” sales , huh ?

you can tell the whole thing is well-rehearsed.

not gonna fall for this s***, but he is being so disrespectful to beyonce who made him famous, didn’t know about him before “single ladies”.

    • Navy Sailor June 4, 2013

But beyonce didn’t make him famous. Just because you didn’t know him doesn’t mean anything. BTW I’m not saying that Rih made him famous either…..

      • POP ROYALTY (Bohemian Grove) June 4, 2013

Majority of ppl didn’t know about him till “SL”.

      • MyPenIzFresh June 5, 2013

I would say Rihanna made him famous. Britney put him on the map, but Rihanna made him a household name. Umbrella launched it all for him

    • @Fashionjunkiee June 5, 2013

      @Pop Royalty
Umbrella made him famous as well as Bed by J Holiday … and then HIS career took off (Falsetto, Rockin that Thing, I luv your girl)…….

and THEN he released single ladies.

so if you didnt know him to single ladies I suggest yu come from out of the cave you hibernate in.

  25. POP ROYALTY (Bohemian Grove) June 4, 2013

going to the beach to get some tan and get to know som girls 😀

also i pray for the turkish ppl to be safe.

  28. blue June 4, 2013

Look at the delusion, everyone knew about dream after touch my body and umbrella. Thats when bet called him up

  29. Loyalty June 4, 2013

Yeah because shes the one that sounds closest to him and can emulate the way HE sounds the most. He specifically said it wasn’t because of Umbrella. Do people not read?

  30. truth(icki’s B**** ASS STANS can EAT ME honey!! Yall b**** is a STANK P**** FLOP chile! (puckers lips like Drake)) June 4, 2013

Maybe he should have let her sing to whole album…i may have sold more…ooops!

    • mikey June 4, 2013

he still sold more than eve did with liplock

  31. Oh yeah June 4, 2013

Plus, Rihanna don’t steal CO-WRITING credit.

    • earth June 4, 2013

Rihanna treats people fair and appreciates thier talent. unlike that copycat rip off b**** were are sick of.

that was a beautiful thing for Dream to say about Rihanna.

    • MyPenIzFresh June 5, 2013

hmmm… you might wanna re-read some of your Rihanna album booklets. Especially the last two

  32. earth June 4, 2013

that was a beautiful thing for him to say about Rihanna will haters leave her alone now?

  33. MyPenIzFresh June 5, 2013

Makes a lot of sense. Honestly I’ve always thought Rihanna brings to life the sound Dream attempts. Her tone compliments the cadence Dream writes in. You can really hear it on songs like Rockstar and Sell Me Candy. I agree with him. Much like Amerie and Rich Harrison, Cassie and Ryan Leslie. As a songwriter myself, sometimes a certain singer makes your sound.
