Mariah Carey‘s music may not be rocking the singles charts of late, however the premium diva is still banking on her album pulling power.
The 43-year-old’s fourteenth studio LP heads to stores on May 6th, and though preceded by a slew of singles – little had been divulged about the project as a body of work. That is until now.
Ms. Carey-Cannon stopped by New York’s 95.5 WPLJ, where she lifted the lid on interesting details about the newly untitled LP.
(Sidenote: According to Mimi, the album is no longer named ‘The Art Of Letting Go’ due to the leak of the title to the press. Of course, it’s nothing to do with the single of the same name tanking. We digress…)
Revealed during the singer’s candid chat with host Ralphie Aversa was info on collaborators, the project’s recording process, newly recorded songs, and much more.

We’re still excited for Mariah’s album – musically. Regardless of what the charts are saying. For, ‘#Beautiful’ and ‘You’re Mine’ are two of her best releases in years.
However…
This is a business. Hence, there is something very alarming about the fact that so few people are willing to part with $0.99 for a Mimi single so close to a time when they’ll be expected to part with ten times that amount for the album.
Team Mimi have two months and some change to mop up the mess. Hopefully, they succeed, because the album – as reflected by some of its singles as well as her words in this interview – seems to be shaping up well.

I just want to hear the album already! I hope she’s gone in a few new directions though. #Beautiful was fantastic, but You’re Mine felt like a step back into her comfort zone. I don’t care how well she sells as long as there’s quality music in it.

Always a compliment and some subtle shade. “The Art of Letting Go” was not a single!! It was simply a personal track Mariah released for her fans. These was never going to be a video or a radio push.
Unfortunately Mariah’s at the place in her 24 year career that she’s just not going to sell sell sell anymore. She’s achieved more than most and there is no reason to compare her to artists who were children or not even born when Vision Of Love hit. Patti LaBelle, Aretha, etc don’t sell albums anymore but that doesn’t make them any less great! The focus should be on quality music and so far the singles have delivered on that. #Beautiful went to #15 which is excellent! What other artist with a 20 plus year career can still nab Top 20 singles? And all the focus is on the US, “You’re Mine” has gone to #1 and Top 10 on many international iTunes Charts.
