For Hollywood, “the past” seems to be the gift that keeps on giving.

Following the trend of reboots, Paramount have today revealed the return of hit franchise ‘Beverly Hill Cop’.

The studio confirmed speculation that the new instalment of ”Cop’ will indeed be hitting the big screen — with March 25th 2016 cemented as the film’s box office arrival.

Eddie Murphy will reprise the role of Axel Foley and early reports suggest that the movie will find Axel Foley “returning to his Detroit roots.”

Brett Ratner will direct from a script by Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec, while Jerry Bruckheimer, who helmed ‘Cop’ and ‘Cop II,’ is back to produce the newest chapter.

A bonafide smash of a series, the first two instalments grossed $235 million in 1984 and $153 million in 1987 — in the US alone. The most recent, which came seven years later, didn’t fare as well – racking up just $42 million domestically. Still, the franchise brought in over $700 million worldwide in total for Paramount; no doubt highlighting why the studio is keen to cash in once again.

As widely reported, there were plans to bring the franchise to the small screen instead with Brandon T. Jackson starring as Foley’s son and Murphy appearing in a recurring capacity. However, the pilot was not picked up by CBS. {Source}
