Eminem & Katy Perry Dominate The UK Charts

Published: Monday 28th Jun 2010 by Trent

There seems to be no stopping the chart force that is Eminem. The rapper has just achieved his 6th #1 album on the UK Albums Chart with ‘Recovery’. The LP now holds the distinction of having the best single week sales of any album in that territory thus far this year with sales of 140k. Eminem also has 2 singles in the top 10 of the Official UK Singles Chart as ‘Not Afraid’ sits at #5 and ‘Love The Way You Lie (Ft. Rihanna)‘ debuted at No. 7.

Another US import to score on the UK charts is Katy Perry, whose new single, ‘California Gurls’, has hit #1 on the Singles Chart. That marks the 2nd song of Perry’s to claim the op spot (the 1st being ‘I Kissed A Girl’ back in 2008). The US might not be very good at playing World Cup football but it continues it’s dominance on the music scene! {Source}

    It’s always interesting seeing how albums fare in UK sales, especially when they obtain the number one spot. Interesting.

    And Trent, I know you’re not from England, but Germany kicked England’s ass yesterday, so they suck. Once everyone see’s the performance of the national team, they realize that the true talent lies in the international players that teams like Manchester United and Chelsea bring in.

    ^^^^Completely agree, England were appalling yesterday, truly shambolic.

    Interesting. I’m wondering where @Last Boy On Earth is, who was claiming “Americans” don’t recognize true talent because Katy Perry is number one on Billboard, yet she’s hit number one in the UK. Hmmmm, now what does this display ladies and gents?

  9. truthfully June 28, 2010

    @team weezy
    atleast on the UK all type of songs can be big hits while on the US since the beggining of this decade only bubble gum pop songs and rap songs are #1s, very few ballads and the rest are American Idol winners, riiight. When was the last time that pure R&B was number 1 without help of a reality show? When was the last time an heavy rock song was an hit on the US? Metal, Jazz…

    Nothing bad about Pop songs, they are always fun to listen too but diversity is the priority on Art

    Um didn’t England get blew out by Germany the other day lol 4-1???

  13. ~TeAM WeeZY~ June 29, 2010

    @Last Boy On Earth

    I’m not disagreeing with your theory, my point is don’t label “Americans” as unrecognizing of true talent for having Katy Perry’s song at number one when it’s number one in UK. It just makes your opinion of Americans the same opinion of that in the UK.

    And I don’t think it’s fair to generalize all Americans as that because me being an African American woman, people automatically assume that I only like R&B and Rap music which is far from the truth. I’m a VERY eclectic music listener! Now don’t get me wrong R&B and Rap are my favorite genres of music, but I love ALL genres of music and all musical artists Wayne to Queen to Paramore to MJ to Beyonce to Kings of Leon to Elton John to Prince and anything else that’s pleasing to my ear on this planet. So I don’t discriminate.

    @Team Weezy

    I know how you feel, people are so quick to throw out labels that sometimes all you can do is shake your head. I get sideways looks when I mention how much I love MGMT or Phoenix like why way to assume I’m supposed to only listen to Gucci Mane.

  18. AlexanderTG June 29, 2010

    @DANBOFFICIAL
    11 grammies and 80 million albums sold is a fail in your book – h*ll what would the guy need to do to succeed?
