FOX are onto a bonafide smash with Lee Daniels‘ music drama ‘Empire’ and are beginning to create a cool synergy with their other properties.
Case in point last night’s episode of ‘American Idol.’
The long-running talent search welcomed Jussie Smollett and Bryshere Gray onto the stage to perform ‘No Apologies’ from the ‘Empire’ season 1 soundtrack, which is currently blocking Madonna from the top spot on iTunes.
Watch the pair, who play brothers Jamal and Hakeem Lyon, in action after the jump…
Cool concept, but we weren’t here for the song selected.
We’d have much preferred a medley of cuts that showcased both in the best light – hence, in Jussie’s case, ‘You’re So Beautiful’ or iTunes hit ‘Conquerer’ with Estelle. For Bryshere , we’d have gone with ‘Drip Drop.’
Again, great means of cross-promotion – on paper. We just hope future showings showcase better songs.
They should have definitely done You’re So Beautiful! It has so much potential and people who don’t watch the show, LOVE IT.
that was cool. I love how they brought Tarji out at the beginning of the show. She looked AMAZING and the crowd went wild!!!!
Jussie fine asz thought he was Drake but he needs to stick with the style he has on the show.
Jussie was pitchy on Ellen and here. Dude is mad talented but he needs to work on them live vocals ….people saving he can’t sing live
Yea I hear that quite often as well, but people have to realize the TV vocals are dubbed and etc. He is a brand new artist that I’m sure will grow into a phenomenal performer.
The guy who plays ANDRE sang gorgeously at the live chat.
Empire is Fiyah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! #tHATSALL
They were so cute!! And they killed it!
“Drip Drop” on a family-oriented TV show…like really, Sam?
They chose the right song, which is the song of their debut.
Yazz is definitely the fan favorite, and he got swag for days.
Jussie please dress up better next time.
I wish they did another song as well, but it we cute. I just really hope Fox doesn’t destroy this show like they did Glee with all of the extreme promo and over exposure.
