Long before Iggy Azalea and Charli XCX made the masses move with their infectious Hip-Pop collabo ‘Fancy’, a fierce duo were already bridging the gap between the Urban and and mainstream arena.
This week’s From The Vault is ‘Let Me Blow Yo Mind’ by rapstress Eve and Gwen Stefani.
‘Mind’ was the second single released from E.V.E.’s second offering ‘Scorpion.’. Unleashed in 2001, it was the first of two songs produced by Dr. Dre for the duo – with the second coming a few years later in the form of ‘Rich Girl.’
The single was a chart hit reaching #2 in the United States and peaking inside the Top 5 in the United Kingdom. It was ranked the 7th biggest song of the year 01 on Billboard.
The track’s visual sported “party crasher” theme with Stefani and Jeffers inviting themselves to a chic soirée before transforming it into a titanic “turn-up.” Humorously, producer Dr. Dre makes a cameo and bails out the girls (who are arrested for their antics) from their cell.
Helmed by Phillip G. Atwell, the clip won a MTV Video Music Awards in the ‘Best Female Video’ category in 2001.

It’s pairings like these which make us root for “cross-genre” ventures. Indeed, with most of today’s collabos reeking of “convenient”, it’s refreshing to see two artists, completely different from one another, bring the best of their distinctive worlds together to make sweet music.

Eve’s “Scorpion” album was so good from start to finish.
Dre is the most iconic producer in the past 20 years. Timberland coming in 2nd. I used to think Tim, buy had to think, Dre brought so any iconic artist into the game and worked with even more icons and had more moments. From NWA, to Snoop, to Pac to Em to 50, to MJB to Eve.
And Eve doesn’t get the credit she deserves. While Kim and Foxxy were being just hookers with a beat, Eve was giving you jams like this and Love Is Blind. Her albums went platinum as well, movies, tv show,fashion line. That’s why I don’t get how Nicki is getting all this praise when Eve, Missy and Kim did it 10 years prior.
Nicki is getting all the praise cause she muthafucking deserves it, no one’s taking anything from Eve because she did her thang in her time and slayed… It’s time for new people now.
Also I can’t believe they left “the first song to win a Grammy” in Best Rap/Sung Collaboration category!

The beat is just pure fire. Dre did that. Eve delivered and Gwen rode the chorus. Definitely a hip-hop classic and one of Eve’s best songs to date.
What do y’all mean Eve never got the recognition she deserved. Eve was highly praised and respected during her time. She was one of the few females who a lot of the male rappers said they felt was a threat other than Missy, Lyte and Lauryn. She had platinum albums, huge hits like Let Me Blow Yo Mind, Gangsta Lovin, Love Is Blind, Who’s That Girl, Hot Boys not to mention her films and TV show did really well and Fetish was a huge Urban clothing line for years
