This week we press play on ‘Dreamlover’ – a #1 hit for Mariah Carey found on her tertiary release ‘Music Box.’ Giving the five octave diva her 7th reign atop the tally this week in 1993 (and first of two from this album), ‘Dream’ still remains one of the longest runs at #1 by any artist (notching 8 consecutive weeks at the perch).

Love 90s Mariah!
Look at how diverse it used to be man! Music today is garbage. The real artists that have the real music don’t get the recognition they should on the charts. It’s sad but music is music…I guess…
MC, Toni, 2Pac, MJ, SWV, Janet, Tina, Jocedi 90s was the best for RNB/Soul.

I’m sorry, y’all, but that remix interpolation she did of “Dreamlover” and “Juicy” by Biggie on “The Adventures of Mimi” Tour slayed my life so hard that I haven’t been able to recover since. And let’s not forget about the “Fantasy” Remix when those dancers were giving their all on that stage to pop, lock, b-boy stance, and drop just to put on a good show. I love Mimi for giving us that tour and her flawless discography!
Wow! Back when entertainers actually had a substantial amount of talent, with the exception of Madonna. Janet, Toni, Mariah, and TINA. Ugghhhh I respect their craft’s so much. Those are the true female pioneers of RnB/Pop.
Music Box was her “Thriller” album, just massive success all over the world. Sold over 30,000,000+ & was her first Diamond LP. I love “Dreamlover”, such a classic song. And, “Will You Be There” should’ve peaked higher, that song is so beautiful. But, Dangerous had already produced like 7 hit singles, before that single was released. Amazing. MJ produced 3 era’s, that sold over 50 million records EACH (albums & singles combined). #King Of Pop
Dreamlover, If, Rain, Will You Be There, I don’t Wanna Fight, I Get Around and Crying, all great songs, the quality of music in the 90’s was exceptional, everyone was making good music.
Could you imagine if some of the singles from Bjork’s “Debut” were slaying that year on the Billboard Hot 100, especially “Human Behavior”? I would’ve died if I heard “Big Time Sensuality” on Top 40 radio back then.

Wait! I thought that Xscape’s “Just Kickin’ It” was supposedly #2 right behind Mariah’s “Dreamlover” on the Hot 100 in that year. I’m so confused. So…were they lying on their “Unsung” episode?
The song hadn’t debuted yet. Remember, Dreamlover was number 1 for 8 weeks.
See? This is a real retro rewind! You have to go back to the 90s or the 80s to appreciate the decline in mainstream music. If you choose let´s say 2006, the difference in quality is not as big. It started to go downhill when the new century began.
You can’t compare the 90’s era to this s**t that exists today. Just look at the two charts and compare. Legends galore on the chart in the 90’s. Today….crap. I love so many types of music and I liked Janet, Michael, Tina, Mariah, Aerosmith, Brian McKnight, SWV, Onyx, Toni B, Kriss Kross, Cypress Hill, Tupac, Nirvana, Toni Tone Tony, Shai, Jodeci, SWV and at that point I actually liked Madonna. Now today is s**t and everything sounds the same with no diversity on the charts. The Top 20 of the Hot 100 should feature artists of every genre of music.
Back when Mariah slayed and had vocal talent. She’s a caricature now. P**.
Mariah Carey is lazy. She allowed FADED to sink; You have the perfect radio song and u do nothing to promote it; that vegas show looked like she was medicated and scared to cut loose. she’s a huge disappointment

The disparity in quality between the two charts is mesmerising. No one quite believes you when you talk about it but to see it there in plain contrast is a true reflection of the times. Back then artists had to have actual talent but equally back then audiences had to buy music for it to be successful.
All these songs still sound good till this day!
