Perseverance.

It’s a trait Leona Lewis clearly possesses.

The songbird, who is the most successful X Factor winner of all time, unfortunately hasn’t enjoyed similar success with her latest album ‘I Am.’

Released September 11th, the set charted at #38 on the Billboard 200 after selling 9,125 copies. On home soil in the UK, it didn’t fare much better – opening at #12 with first week numbers of 8,500.

Nonetheless, the promotional push continues and led Lewis to the ‘Late Late Show With James Corden’ last night where she performed current Stateside single ‘Thunder.’

Peep the performance below, as well as the singer’s take on her sales…

Speaking on her sales, she shared with her Instagram following:

It’s been a week that my album #IAM has been released and I wanted to write a little message to my buns to express how I feel.

Embarking on this album was an incredible land mark for me. Starting out independently without the backing of a major label was a hard and long road. I had to strip back so many layers and let go of a lot of things and get UNCOMFORTABLE!
I had to dig deep and really come out of myself, push myself and break boundaries. Being somewhat of an introvert, I found it highly challenging and emotionally draining at times but I always new that it was for a bigger purpose.

I cannot tell you how proud this album makes me, and how personally liberated and peaceful I feel. I still have moments when i get nervous or anxious but I always come back to that place of inner freedom because I have allowed my true voice to sing loud and clear.

It’s not always about making a crater with a Big Bang, sometimes it’s the small and subtle marks that begin to tip the scale and eventually weigh in our favour.
So thank you all for being a part of this with me, my buns 4 life, I love you guys and I will always be open and true with you. I hope you’re having a beautiful Sunday and living your authentic life.

Love always
Leona xxx

Such a talented flop! The state of music nowadays is just tragic.

I bought this album and it has been on repeat ever since. I’m sad at how little this sold and the support. Definitely deserves a nomination for album of the year (if Beck can win with his low sales, so can Leona).

With the U.K. being her biggest market and sales being dismal I think this era is all but over I think Leona has taken too much time away and people have slowly moved on. But in all honesty her talent can not be denied.

I’m so incredibly upset that the U.K. let yet down. She was going so well with her prior releases and she’s always been a true artist with meaningful lyrics. However, the pressure got too intense with Adele and Sam and even Emile dominating the type of soulful genre that Leona is used to delivering. I just hope that she can make this album successful because taking risks can be a great advantage, or even horrible disadvantage. She’s one of the few real artists still in the industry, and I need her to stay successful.

album sales in general have been going down for years and she didn’t have a high charting single when the album was released for example This Kiss being #6 on Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart dated April 18th 1998 helped Faith Hill’s self titled 3rd album sell 85,500 copies it’s first week of release debuting at #2 on the top country albums chart dated May 9th 1998 the single was certified Gold June 30th and platinum in early December the album hit platinum June 30th 98 and eventually 6 x platinum on October 6th 2003 mind you that album launched 5 hit singles on the Country singles chart 3 on Adult contemporary and 2 on the billboard Hot 100. the four singles after This Kiss were Just To Hear You Say That You Love Me Let Me Let Go Love Ain’t Like That and The Secret Of Life though she didn’t get to promote the album all that much because her second daughter Maggie was born in the middle of promotion on August 12th weighing 6 lbs 9 oz

I can’t even figure out wat 2 say. Poor girl.

  8. lolhart September 22, 2015

She’s a classic example that you can have the best voice in the world but you need something more in the long term. I do respect her for walking away from Cowell when he tried to get her to do a covers album

I hope she comes out with I Am as a single…thats my fave song from the album! Great message!

  10. Theman September 22, 2015

It’s the lack of hit singles. She hasn’t had them for her last few eras. Also, her album was kind of released under the radar.

  11. Musika September 22, 2015

Hold up, she’s with Island Records now right but doesn’t have their backing? So it was only a distributor deal then 🙁

  12. Dev September 22, 2015

Leona needs a Quincy Jones, Clive Davis or Tommy Mattola to steer her career. She needs control.
The difference between the Sams and Adeles are not the vocal ability but quality of music. Leona doesn’t seemed to evolved as an artist as her music is very similar and vocally the same. Sometimes you have to move away from what’s safe and give the people what they want. To think that she originally sing Burn later made a hit by Ellie Goulding….. if only she’d kept it

Leona is so much better than those numbers. She really needed to make a bigger impact before releasing the album. At least she didn’t do like some artists who make excuses and try to distance themselves from a project when it doesn’t perform well.

Well, she got to perform with Taylor Swift in Nashville. It was sick, you should definitely check it out. Also, check out her recent duet with Jason Derulo. It got millions of views and was phenomenal.
