The TIDAL saga continues.
Jay Z‘s late foray into the streaming arena has been anything but a walk in Central Park for the New York mogul.
Well documented is the difficulties the platform has faced, but things – in recent times have looked to be on the up thanks to high profile releases from some of its artist-owners (see: Kanye West and Rihanna).
Now, it would appear that while fresh plans are in place to further differentiate the service from rivals such as Spotify, there continues to be drama on the backend.
More on the TIDAL rollercoaster after the jump…
On the up side of things, Page Six reports that the service is veering into the world of movies – in an ambitious way.
Per the story, TIDAL will soon be offering original films to subscribers.
The service is in negotiations with movie-industry executives, for a partnership to create films for Tidal, with a focus on the artists signed to the streaming service.
Page Six quotes multiple sources when adding:
“The movie service will feature original content as well as acquired films. TIDAL hopes to work with an indie studio or producer on a partnership to create original movies.
Preliminary talks have been underway with the Weinstein Co., plus Tidal will also be working with other producers, including Irv Gotti, to acquire original movies.”
Great, right?! We feel so. As, it’ll help further create a unique selling point for the platform, which has already gone into partnership with the Barclays Center to have its own theater venue housed there.
What isn’t so awesome, though, is news that Jay is suing TIDAL’s original owners for misrepresenting the state of the company before his Aspiro business purchased it last year.
Music Business Worldwide writes:
Jay Z reportedly claims that the figure his team were given for worldwide subscribers of the company in January 2015 – 503,000 – was misleading.
In addition, he claims that the business was in much worse condition than what was indicated in the statements he received at the time.
The sum Jigga is demanding is 100 million…Norwegian Krone. A figure, which when converted, sits in the ballpark of $15 million US.
Again, not the best press for a service that has been body-slammed more times than Hulk Hogan.
Still, we commend the resilience of all involved to “make it work.” At this point, though, it literally has no choice but to given all that has transpired.
Kiii
The camel need to sell this mess
ok.
Tidal is a joke
DEATH!!! Tidal gets more a mess as the month’s go by! Oh well, if he rides it out i am sure he will reap the benefits. If Tidal can produce quality original content like HBO and Netflix. He will indeed be set for a steady climb. Don’t sell Tidal Jay! Tidals already managed to accumulate 2m subs after 1 year. It’s on track to be a cemented contender in the Streaming world, especially if he does go the movie/original content streaming route.
You still believing those lies Jay Z is telling you delusional fans? Lol! Tidal is in serious financial trouble due to shady business dealing. Jay has secretly offered to sell Tidal to major corporations but no one wants it. * sips tea*
Meh. Bring back Sam Goody, FYE and Suncoast. F*** streaming.
Lol! Didn’t I tell you dummies that Tidal is a lying mess! And you all down voted me?! I have a friend who works in the music industry and Tidal is sinking like the Titanic! Rihanna, Beyonce and Kanye cannot save this fraud company!
Oooop spill more tea
They tried to get Drake on board but Drake was too smart for that. He went with Apple
