Scribbled in history books for some good and not-so-good reasons, 2016 brought with it some of modern music’s most memorable moments.
Now, as the year draws to a close, TGJ is reflecting on 31 moments that rocked – and, for some, changed – the Urban and Pop musical landscape as we know it.
Next, we’ll take a look at a career milestone of one of R&B’s most underrated gems: Solange.
Reported: October 2016
…nearly 14 years after her debut LP, ‘Solo Star,’ the youngest of the Knowles clan can finally boast claim to a #1 album on the Billboard 200 with her third opus, ‘A Seat at the Table.’ With first week sales of 72,000 SPS – besting initial predictions by nearly 30,000 – the project features appearances from the likes of Lil’ Wayne, Kelly Rowland, Tweet, and more.
With ‘Table’ Solange solidifed her position in history books alongside megastar sister Beyonce as the two became the first sisters in history to nab a #1 album in the same calendar year.
Beyoncé, Solange and Letoya Luckett all have a billboard 200 #1 Album. Love it ?
Obviously Beyoncé has more than one. But, you get what I’m saying.
2015/2016
One of the worst years in music history. PERIOD.
Elaborate…do you mean in terms of content? Sales? Both…?
Please explain because I feel this year was amazing. I enjoyed projects from so many artist.
Solange’s new album is bomb…love her!
Yes, praises to Solange, hallelujah, but, I gotta question… This is random but what happened to Diabetes? She didn’t die, did she?
I was wandering the same thing! I miss that b****! She needs to wake from her diabetic coma!
with one of the lowest debut ever
That’s ok tho…Solange has one of the longest kicks in history lol
The only positive thing about 2016 were the Knowles sisters tbh
B**** f*** you Work gave life to many a club!
But beyonce bought most the copies. Funny how she was at the #2 spot and at the last minute she was #1. You sheep believe anything
Solange gave a lesson on how to snatch you sister wig and edges. The people may have been sipping on lemonade but the full meal at the table was more filling.
It’s funny how (for me) Blond was hyped but ended up being a disappointment with “a Seat” to swoop in and save the day. People may talk about sales but Solanges album musically was much better quality
Salonge always had good content. She’s very lounge, coffee shop, weed and mid term paper kinda artist which is sooo cute!!! But I’m materialistic vain and obsessed with persona and astestics. I’m not here for her.
Well that’s the beauty of choices, we all chose what we like. I like the way you articulated your reply, sometimes on this site people are just too much.
Wonderful
