Watch: Liam Payne Performs ‘Strip That Down’ On ‘Graham Norton’

Published: Saturday 27th May 2017 by Sam

One Direction star Liam Payne is wasting no time taking debut solo single ‘Strip That Down’ to the live circuit.

Kicking off his promotional run for the Quavo assisted single, the 24-year-old hit the stage on the Graham Norton Show to perform the track.

Backed by dancers and dabbling in choreography himself, Payne seemed out to prove that he has the gravitas to go it alone.

Peep his showing below…

Hmm.

While confident seeming on the surface, something still feels a little…lacking. And inauthentic too.

We have no doubt this is the space Liam likely wants to play in. But moving forward he’ll have to find a way to ensure it feels more “organic” than playing dress up as Justin Timberlake circa 2002.

The song also sounds entirely too sparse live; a live band would have beefed up the sound more.

Your thoughts?

He seems cool and the song is nice but I hope Shaggy got the credit for that “It Wasn’t Me” sample in the pre-chorus.

He seems authentic to me…you guys look at him as the 1D member but each of them have their own style of music and it shows. I’m sure he could have easily record a generic pop song that could have gone #1

Wow I actually like his sound & Zayne sound live!! ?

He looks too much like a kid for this song to me.

You guys say confident and i say rehearsed. I personally don’t buy this and i’ll explain why. You could always tell that Zayn (for example) liked a range of music so when his debut came out he was him but it felt authentic, pillow talk wasn’t your expected first single from a ex boyband member.

The problem with Liam much like is girlfriend is that everything is contrived and inconsistent. Liam showed no signs of his love for “hip hop music” prior and even if he did love it he could’ve come a bit harder than this generic sound and could’ve stayed with the image we know him for instead of playing dress up, Zayn didnt change his image much when leaving one direction and let the music do the talking where as all these half arsed moves and pop n b music seems like a record company’s idea to make him more edgy and older.

You know what hats off to him, for a first solo performance that was a great effort, let’s face it know one saw Liam being one of the ones that had a successful solo career and he has come out with a bat swinging and going hard! Well done to him!
