When Tyra Banks‘ ‘America’s Next Top Model’ impacted the world in 2003 it did so in a world in which its audience was silent…at least for the most part.
Today, thanks to social media and the voice it has given consumers/viewers, that has all changed.
What this means for Banks’ entertaining but occasionally baffling show? Trouble.
For, said viewers are now using social media to remind the super mogul that they haven’t forgotten about the way she and her team of judges treated the show’s contestants.
The North remembers..

What has any of this has to do with ‘Black Panther’?
Find out below…
Many years ago, I modeled for this swimsuit campaign in Israel. The weather and styling was ?. I saw someone post this photo celebrating #BlackPanther. I was awestruck by the film in so many wondrous ways. Go see it. I guarantee it is unlike ANY film you have EVER seen. #Wakanda pic.twitter.com/Ms7IKcORJC

Some found Banks’ celebration of African culture comical. Why?
Remember the time you and the judges tried to shame Yaya for being and dressing proudly African? https://t.co/BAFXzi5UIt

The tweet above came arm in arm with the comments below…
Just post your pic, girl. black Panther has nothing to do with it LMAO pic.twitter.com/8CTZrhbG9Z

Funny you posted this, because when it was @yayadacosta you & your problematic panel shamed her for pushing her “African-ness”. pic.twitter.com/k6eZNRpe3P

Yo, she literally told her to tone down her black. Tf Tyra.
— Melody (@MelodyPotgieter) February 21, 2018
Tyra really told Yaya her natural hair and outfits were trying too hard while wearing an afro wig ????
— Mar (@Return2Mars) February 21, 2018
No Tyra. You and your judges shamed Yaya for being “too African”.
Don’t pull this shit for retweets. We still remember.

You shamed Yaya for being proudly African Tyra!!
— Marley (@MotsoMarley) February 21, 2018
Tyra is narcissistic entertaining trash. Yaya was gaslit while Tyra sat up there with a full afro bc she was “embracing her natural hair”

The same Tyra who hated on Yaya for being Afrocentric ? https://t.co/spOeZNzCAy

How YaYa DaCosta feels about it?
I saw that video, truly shameful of Tyra to have sat there as a black woman and try to humiliate that girl for wearing her natural hair all because the white people on Tyra’s panel were uncomfortable.
Naomi Campbell would have put all them panel b****** on blast. Tyra was very bias.
I would love to see Tyra climb herself out of this hole.
I remember this episode and I felt bad for Yaya. What’s wrong with her embracing herself and who she outside of a photo shoot?
Tyra is a mess.
I mean, it’s crazy when you think about a lot of the oppression that has taken place within this program that were not televised.
Tyra is shameful.
Yea, she should tell them to kiss her black ass.
People needs to get a life
Where’s the Asian Jasmine aka Shaniqua at?
Hey girl I was in hospital I got a 2 liter sprite bottle stuck in my a r s e so I had to get it removed.
This is young people who haven’t experienced anything in life are the ones talking. When you get in the work place and in the industry you’ll understand what tyra is talking about
NLT unfortunately
And exactly what is Tyra talking about?
This has nothing to do with experience or being young. Tyra uses any opportunity to make everything about herself. Her picture had ZERO to do with black panther. She deserved to be lit.
GET HER
Tyra owes nothing to nobody!!!! She should tell anyone that opposes her tweet, TO KICK F***** ROCKS!!!!
Roast her ass. I don’t like her at all.
Tyra has to make everything about her. I used to like her until I started to notice a very negative self-indulgent and contradictory pattern of behavior from her. Over the years she’s proclaimed to be all about women-empowerment, self love, and defying beauty standards… only to bash other women on ANTM and exclusively apply those “positive” and affirming concepts to herself when she gains weight or takes bad photos.
Even on the new season of ANTM, she’s still being her narcissistic self and has done away with the age limit… why….? Because she’s now older and it makes her feel better about HERSELF. When she was in her early 30’s, she didn’t want a 40-year contestant on the show, but now it’s okay. Same with including more full-figured models. She seems to use false proclamations of positivity and inclusion as a trendy way to push her own image and build her fledgling brand. And don’t get me started on her playing victim with Naomi and having this weird love-hate relationship with other black models…
Tyra Banks is a legend. She’s not perfect like all of us. Sounds like a lot of petty hatin to me. Criticize Donald Trump and his hypocrisy.
You can criticize more than one thing at a time. What a dumb comment…
I see in this day and time comprehension is something that is rare! Tyra wasn’t shaming YaYa for wearing African attire, she was telling her if she’s going to wear it, be fashionable with it! Glam it up a bit after all you are on America’s Next Top model!
No you chose to pay attention to what made your statement relevant. When you also add that she said “ you seem defensive” that was very negative especially when you’re the one constantly beinging up my culture
I hear no lies from Tyra.
Tyra’s there to allow you a chance you can’t expect anymore. As far as shaming anyone if you don’t want her advice go home.

Tyra did not put down yaya for dressing afro centric. The other female judge did. Tyra was correcting yaya for talking back the judges about how she felt about the style. What us everyone talking about.
