‘Can We Talk?’ singer Tevin Campbell has been the talk of Twitter all weekend thanks to Nigerian author/digital strategist Luvvie Ajayi who scoffed at the notion the Grammy-nominated crooner tribute the late Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin.
Taking to Twitter, Ajayi stated:
It wasn’t long before Black Twitter, including fans, celebrities, and supporters alike came to the defense of the now-41 year old singer. Taking her to task for her unsavory comment, the backlash got so hot Luvvie responded:
Did you miss any of the action? See the hoopla inside:
Tevin, paying his respects to one of his idols, was unknowingly about to be a Twitter trending topic over the weekend when he stated:
But, before he could come to his own defense, celebrities like Wale and Missy Elliott had his back.
They weren’t all, however.
Can We Talk literally s h I t s on 95 percent of the music today. Just that ONE song alone. Dont even get me started on the entire I’m Ready album.
Ikr? And the fact that Tevin wasn’t able to pay tribute to Ms. Franklin because of that insensitive tweet makes me angry because I can tell he really loved her artistry.
They played “I’m Ready” on the radio a few days ago. It made me nostalgic, I love that song.
Tevin will slay DOWN a vocal…I remember someone commenting here on TGJ about how his voice and runs compare to Whitney Houston…and I agree!
“Can We Talk” is single handedly one of the top 5 R&B songs of all time. PERIOD!
I just want Tevin to make another album like lord hit up Babyface, 40 “Drakes producer” , and Rober Glasper and he’ll have a better mordern R&B album and yes to I’m Ready Album shits on everything of today along with Back to The Workd too
Tevin got closer to nippys inflections vocally more than almost anybody
Yes! ??
Speaking of relevance, I can’t say I ever heard of this Luvvie person before today. Tevin will be known long after this woman disappears.
S*** his vocals are much better than most artists today!!
