As the age old adage goes, all good things must come to an and. And for ‘Orange Is The New Black’ that time has come.
Details below…
In an announcement video shared on social media, cast-members of the hit Netflix dramedy revealed that its upcoming seventh season – set to air in 2019 – will be its last.
‘Orange Is The New Black’ was created by Kenji Kohan and is based on Piper Kerman’s memoir of the same name.
It follows the layered lives of of the ladies of Litchfield correctional facility.
Very much at the forefront of the Netflix boom, the show’s first season earned a whopping 12 Emmy nominations – bagging Best Comedy on the night. It’s since gone on to win three more.
The series is also notable for catapulting the likes of Taylor Schilling, Danielle Brookes, Uche Aduba, and Laverne Cox into stardom. Historically, Cox’s portrayal of Sophia Burset saw her become the first transgender actress to receive an Emmy nom.
Speaking on OITNB’s ending, Lionsgate Television Group chairman Kevin Beggs said:
“Orange Is the New Black has profoundly impacted popular culture worldwide, and has played a prominent role in building Lionsgate into a platform-defining brand.
Thanks to the brilliance of Jenji Kohan, the mastery of the creative and production team, the transcendent cast, and our tremendous partnership with Netflix, the series has surpassed our expectations year after year. With great pride, we are working together to bring this landmark series to a triumphant, satisfying close with the upcoming seventh season.”

We’re glad.
The show has been a favorite of ours, but recent seasons begun to feel a little dragged out – with little room for growth.
At least now attention can turn to ensuring loose ends are tied up and that the show’s end satisfies in a way that the last few seasons didn’t.
They’re ending it cause the show was meant to be about Piper but people got bored with her ??♂️
She was too long in t anyway. There are a lot of other interesting characters which they delevoped and focused on pretty well during the last years. But I like that they end it, better end it before riding it to death
Wentworth is better
Sadly the steam, fire and energy the show once had when Netflix and binge watching was newer to the masses was unmatched once upon a time. I’m still in middle of like s5, I think.
–
Somewhere the energy died and I think s2 all about Vee didn’t help. S1 was the best and unmatched overall. S4 was better than Ruby Rose s3 I believe it was too.
–
But yeah lately this year and last I lost my yearning for it.
