‘Step in the Name of Love’ singer R. Kelly stepped into the Cook County jail Friday night after turning himself in to Chicago police Friday night following the announcement he was being charged with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
His hearing the next day (February 23) saw the judge hand down a ruling of $1 million bail for his release, of which he only needed to pay 10 percent ($100,000) in order to be released. As of time reported, the Grammy winner remains behind bars because – according to his lawyer – his finances “are a mess.”
Details inside:
Kelly’s attorney, Steven Greenberg, took to press to say:
“He’s trying to get it together,” Greenberg said, adding that Kelly has struggled for money since his record label dropped him. “He’s trying to get it together … he doesn’t have it sitting in the bank, sitting in a shoe box, sitting anywhere.”
“This is someone who should be wealthy,” Greenberg said (via WGN9). “I don’t even think he owns the rights to ‘I Believe I Can Fly.’”
Surely he’s where he belongs but sadly the world has let his music overshadow the abuse of LITTLE BLACK GIRLS, now WOMAN!!??♂️
