Big names like Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande, and Taylor Swift may have been among the leading nominees at the 62nd annual Grammy Awards (January 26), but it’s pretty safe to say the night belonged to the new class.
Lizzo‘s ‘Truth Hurts’ hurt the competition in multiple categories including snatching honors in Best Pop Solo Performance, Best Urban Contemporary, and Best Traditional R&B Performance categories while ‘Old Town Road’ star Lil Nas X rode ahead of his competitors in ‘Best Pop Duo/Group Performance’ and ‘Best Music Video’ fields.
However, if anyone would be crowned the night’s champion it would be 18-year-old newcomer Billie Eilish. See why inside:
Eilish swept the top categories at the 62nd annual Grammy Awards on Sunday night (January 26) by claiming album of the year, best new artist, song of the year, record of the year, and best pop vocal album. The history-making wins make her the second female act in history to win all four awards (after Adele), but first female to win them all in one night.
Note: In 1981, ‘Sailing‘ singer Christopher Cross became the first artist to win all “big four” awards – album, record, song, and best new artist of the year – in one night.
The feat makes her the youngest artist to ever sweep the top four at the ceremony and also take home its biggest honor (album of the year), a record once held by Taylor Swift. Interestingly, the latter – usually a Grammy darling – was unceremoniously shut out of this year’s competition (click here to read more).

I haven’t listened to her album in its entirety but from what I’ve heard she’s the only artist deserving of every single award. This year was full of sh*tty releases. I can’t think of anyone off hand who actually had a good release this year. Hopefully 2020 is the year of great projects. Really looking forward to DVSN, Rihanna and Normani.

I agree with this! It’s so weird as when I saw the Everything I Wanted video, I noticed a slight Aaliyah vibe and I couldn’t put my finger on it. Aaliyah WAS and STILL IS ahead of her time. Of all the iconic acts to emerge from that decade (Lionel Richie, Madonna, Prince, Whitney, Cyndi Lauper, Journey, Michael, Janet etc) they gave the Big 4 awards to none of them EXCEPT Christopher Cross?!!
