Ratings: 2020 EMMYs Set All-Time Low Record for Ceremony’s Viewership

Published: Tuesday 22nd Sep 2020 by Rashad

While the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards, which aired live Sunday night (September 20), set a record for handing out the most golden statuettes to Black performers in the ceremony’s history (as we reported here), it will also be penciled in record books for another historic feat: poor ratings.

Details inside:

Viewership = 6.1 million

Ringing in their lowest numbers to date, this year’s figure goes down in history as the second time in history viewership dipped below 7 million.

Report:

“…the final numbers are in for the Jimmy Kimmel-hosted show, and they remain a record low for the small screen’s biggest night.

With 6.1 million viewers and a 1.2 rating among adults 18-49 in time adjusted results, the 8-11:06 PM ET show managed to prove host Kimmel right and beat last year’s previous low.”

    Celebrity culture is dying out thanks to accessible internet and social media platforms like Instagram and Twitter

    Back in the day, u had to tune in to these awards shows just to catch a glimpse of ur favourite celebrity.

    This happens yearly. Next year it’ll be under 5.5 million viewers. Mark my words.

    It’s was the whole first hour of only Schitt’s Creek winning for me. They could have spread it out.

    Plus we watch for the fashion and in person speeches. It loses its touch without all that

    I wonder why so many are still watching the industry celebrating itself
